Barely any cars and this road doesn't connect to the highway going to North Macedonia. better to head to the road going to the highway To get to the Macedonian border you can also take a bus to Niki for €2.20. ask the Florina bus station for the timetable, but they said there's one at 13:00 and idk when else

Longest time I've ever had to wait for a ride out of ~200 rides. Tried hitching at 5PM on Thursday for an hour but had to give up and set up my tent. Continued trying to hitch at 10AM on Friday and it took 3 hours until I finally got picked up by a Macedonian trucker going to Thessaloniki. Other than that, I had two truckers stop who were only going 10km, which I said yes to... But they apparently changed their mind and didn't want me to get in. One of them just didn't have space for my bag, but I don't know what the reason is for the other one unless he just didn't like the look of me.

This spot would be good if not for one small thing. This is Greece, country famous for not being to hitchhiking friendly and we are very close to a Turkish border which is probably making hh here even harder. From positives there are 3 petrol stations here, place for car to stop and not too bad amount of traffic but litteraly no one stops. A lot of people were turning around here and showing me that and that's all from driver's reactions. Only car that stopped was police but fortunately they only checked my passport and wished me a good luck, I gave that spot 2 instead of 1 star only thanks to very nice staff of shell petrol station that bought me some snacks and water while I was WAITING, because of how shitty hh worked here I slept nearby this spot and then took a train to Aoexandropoli (fortunately it cost less than 5 euro) to try hitchhiking from there. My general advice is DON'T COME TO THIS PART OF GREECE IF YOU WANT TO HITCHHIKE, JUST DON'T, IT'S NOT WORTH IT

I got dropped of on the highway the evening before and walked here in the morning. The fence at the tollstation is broken and its easy to access the highway up a small slope. The workers greeted me back nicely and i got a ride in no time by a truck to Romania. At the border we got X-Rayed and my guitar was inspected and played by the police:)

Not much traffic off season. Mostly Turkish cars with 34 area code. Many trucks with 16. I needed to go to Sofia so i tried to go east with sign Bulgaria and west with Sign Thessaloniki. Sometimes both while standing in the middle and turning for cars/trucks. Going to Turkey should be possible since i got offered rides by truck drivers. The police were really chill only checked my Passport and told me they have to kick me out if someone reports me and chatted with me about traveling while doing their checks. The checkpoint and police presence probably made the drivers not stop for me. 1 male

I bet its a good spot during the season but for me it didnt really work out. There was a police control so i first climbed the fence and tried on the highway and on ramp but had no luck. Later the checkpoint was gone so i went opposite the hardware store( Inside is a free water fountain right at the entrance straight on). Later an employee took me on his delivery run and i unloaded the loads with him to drive me to the toll after. 1 male

Not bad space for stopping and nice place to sleep near by the abandoned tools but it's very hard to get here from Thessaloniki, probably the best way is to hitchhike here. There is a bus but it's a ghost bus that exists only on Google maps and as it was already dark I don't think that hitchhiking would work well. At the end I had to WALK HERE FOR OVER 18 KILOMETERS which took me around 4 hours and I got here around 4 am... But except for that I think it's not a bad spot for going to North Macedonia

Good spot for getting to Thessaloniki, behind the tools. On parking right next to the tools there are toilets that looked like they were for free but I haven't tested them so I can't guarantee that

Right after tools, great spot and both tools staff and police that passed (that was the first time I saw them on highway in Greece by the way) didn't care about me hitchhiking here. I quickly got ride to the next tools close to Thessaloniki

I had to wait a little but this is Greece so it wasn't unexpected. After little over two hours I got ride further towards Thessaloniki to the tools station. You have quite good visibility here and there is space for stopping, technically you are still standing before highway entry sign so if police comes you can try to use that fact to don't get fined but it's very unlikely that you will see them so don't worry about it too much. Also in small forest in between two highway ramps and highway itself there is not bad place for sleeping, it's not perfect either but it works

First I tired standing here as traffic volume wasn't too bad on this road and there is some place for stopping here but well it's Greece so nobody has stopped and when traffic deteriorated I decided to just go on the highway itself

I was little bit afraid to go here in the first place because of fine risk but it's really good spot, guy stopped in literally 7 minutes and took me closer towards Thessaloniki. Only down site is that speeds on highway are high and I needed to run a little to my driver's car as stopping on highway takes some time

Went here with bus 84A and a 15 minute walk including a climb over a ditch holding no water late September (I hope it’s always like this) and a small fence after failing to leave Thessaloniki from the ramp at the bp. First car stopped in like 5 minutes but it was a Turkish border guard who could only take me to the border and confirmed that I can't cross it on foot so I declined, than after some time has passed Turkish military truck stopped and they told me that I can't stay here, that this is closed military area and that I need to get closer to the roundebad(I originally standed right between that spot and border itself). So I moved to this spot and first car I thumbed to stopped and after I showed the driver my eu passport he took me to Greece

It's a motorway so the cars are going fast, but you can ask around at the petrol station. There are a lot of lorries going south, I caught a ride towards Blagoevgrad with one that was on the way to Greece.

First I tried at the end of shell gas station but after being there for 10 minutes I saw big dig approaching this station from direction of second one further down the road and as I remembered warning regarding aggressive dogs on that station left by somebody on this map I decided to change my spot and moved to small path right before place where truck and car lanes merge. I stood centrally in between of them and used my right thumb to flag trucks and left thumb to flag cars. Unfortunately most trucks ignored me or showed that they aren't going far. With cars most of them were Bulgarians who probably only went for probably cheaper fuel and back home, many of them even showed me that they aren't going far. They were some Turks too but they weren't stopping and I still needed to stand here for long time. Police only once stopped, they checked my passport and asked me what I'm doing, then they just left and didn't say anything to me so I continued hitchhiking here. I camped nearby in a tent and nobody saw me aldo in the evening I heard some people talking near me, probably border guards but they didn't find me, spot in which I camped is next to a small river going to the main border river very close to Greek border. To get there you need to walk from the border crossing to Turkish general speed limit sign (right next to ATMs) and then turn right towards Greece, you will see big empty field that's supposed to be a parking lot. You need to go through it close to the right side of it (don't be afraid of proximity to the police building) and wall till you see a place in which there is gap in fence and ground goes down. Go there and that's the spot. It's quite secured from unwanted eyes thanks to it being in lower terrain, not perfect but it worked for me

Ferry is often free for pedestrians, but basically no traffic going south/greece in late september

Almost everyone here goes to Greece or is a local. 8 people catch here cars in like 10 minutes.

Great Spot, a lot of traffic in direction of greece. Recommend by the locals. We were there as a couple and got a ride to Kulata (Border). And we Had a sign with Sandanski

We gave up after one evening and one morning of hitchhiking. Seems like a good spot but cars don’t stop. I guess it’s just Greece combined with bad luck. We took the bus from Chrysoupoli to Xanthi (4€ and every 2 hours)

Probably a good spot to go east but Hitchhiking in Greece is a nightmare. Cars go by slightly fast but could be worse. Got picked up by a nice guy who brought us to another spot 30 km away. Few people at gas station but mostly (nice) locals.

I stood pretty close to the ramp with a sign that had VELES written in the latin alphabet on it. A man stopped and was even able to bring me further than Veles, since I was trying to get to the greece border.

A german couple took me to the greece border in their camper van. I talked to them on the parking slot and asked for a ride. Thanks Nadine & Jan!

I was lucky to have a car to Albania here, there is no much cars but you can speak to people and I think it's better in Greece because they're afraid of hitchhiking. The two girl form the gas station are so nice, they offered me a bottle of water :)

Asking around definitely is the way to go in Greece. Had option for Serres and Kavala as well!

Border area has lots of spots, but as I remember, truck and bus/car traffic is separated. I waited near barracks-shops, but some people paid more attention to me than I needed ("wana buy something"). Car drove to Scopie and took me to the highway junction near Petrovec (my target was Greece).
