This spot sucks dick. As of September 2026 this highway towards Croatia is absolutely dead. One car in 3 minutes is passing. In the evening suddenly a nice croatian guy took us to Osijek were we slept. Without him we would be absolutely fucked and probably still there without a lift. Try the other roads!!! There is way more traffic and more locals use this towards Bosnia.

We waited about 1.5h and then got a ride close the the Serbian border. Probably the best spot to get out of Budapest in direction of Serbia. Imo its better to stand at the entrance of the station than at the exit.

There was not a lot of traffic and most of it was going towards budapest but found one truck going pas kosice so he was my savoiur and took me exactly in my direction. But shoudl eventually work if you are going north from here. Going budapest shoudl be very easy.

Shit gas station with almost no traffic. And all the traffic that is there is going to debrecen or surrounding towns. We were trying to go to Oradea and noone was going there until one van picked us up. But some people told us that there is more romanian traffic on the gas station before. But that traffic might just go to Satu Mare instead. But probably i would recommend trying one gas station before maybe.

Really good spot for going to Debrecen. Other places idk. Probably not so much. Got a ride there fast by asking around.

Went there to catch the morning work traffic and trucks. Was trying to go in Romania direction but as most of the cars are going towards Budapest we just decided to go to the next gas station towars there and cross the highway. It worked pretty well as we founf a ride towards debrecen pretty easy.

There is 0 shade but its good as it is a bus top with good visibility and cars are not super fast after roundabout. And everyone shoudl go atleast to hortobagy. My car was even tgoing to Eger

Was trying to go to hortobagy but noone stoped for me even tho the spot is nice. Big bus stop and sometimes there is lights where cars stop. But eventually some car stopped and took me to the next split in the road

Came early in the morning to catch the morning traffic that would go to debrecen. Found some workers with a van going towards it. Pretty nice spot. In that mornign at least.

Good spot. Most of the traffic should go to Miskolc because its a a road around the city that everyone takes to go there. But luckily our deiver was going exactly where we neded even tho it was a bit of squeeze but we were super happy

Cars go slow because of town. Not the biggest bus stop to stop but it works. But a lot of local traffic just going to surrounding towns after shopping. But the guy took us to the next bigger town because the towns before were very sketchy even tho he lived there

Hitchhiking as a trio can be really tough. This spot might be good in other circumstances but we got extremely unlucky

We stood directly on the highway, because there were not many cars at the parking place. A Romanian driver picked us up

Standed with Sing Novy Sad, got a ride to the border which we crossed by foot.

Asked around people in the gas station, mostly local traffic, got a ride to Kecskemet.

Standed with sign Szeged, not many cars. Drivers that picked us and gave us a ride to the nearest gas station told us it was illegal to stop there

Idk if this is a best spot in the town but for sure you must go to this town if you are going west to Hungary or Oradea until the highway is not yet built. A lot of Hungarian license plates but finally a guy stoped for me who was going to Frankfurt. Sadly i was going to east slovakia so got off just after debrecen. Would have been really nice progress if i was going to germany. Really nice guy tho. Stood with oradea sign. Tho one trucker going the other direction shouted at me in some language and pounted to go more in the town or was trying to say that it was not the best spit but it worked in the end. But holy its a fucking long ride to Oradea form here trough all the villages

I did not use this spot myself but saw two hitchers there with one to a sign to Hungary and the other to Slovenia, it seems alright spot however if you do use this spot beware that it is very little noticeable for the drivers due to the way the trees are and I'd recommend you to put the sign further ahead on the road or to be partly on the side of the road, I literally noticed you lot on the last second, let alone normal car drivers, i am not sure if my driver even saw you guys, just a heads up :)

I used it two times to hitchhike to Hungary. Both times I ended up in Sopron. Try with a Hungary sign or ask at the gas station.

Maybe we were unlucky. Only local traffic and nobody going to the highway. After nearly two hours someone took us 20 minutes to Hungary where we took a train to Budapest.

not a very good spot for me actually i tried on a week day to reach budapest but no success, i leave my big sign here ahahah i’m sure u’ll find it a guy took me after 2h to the next gas station just before hungary but it was though good luck that spot is not very very good for long distance, slovaquia is hard for hitchhiking 🫠

A lot of cars in the morning, you can easily catch a ride to Ljubljana and even Austria and Hungary.

asked a lot of trucks and cars. many go to germany and belgium, but didn't want to take me. hungary is easier

(Two people 26F + 49M) Some local people gave us advice to look for a trip towards Romania from here, because cars with Hungarian and Rumanian licence plates often take breaks on the parking lot. Many also come back from Austria for holiday with Austrian licensed plates and sometimes they are just taking cars to sell them in Hungary or Romania. There were plenty of people hanging out in groups but cars tend to be full. Of course you can also ask at the service station. In our case it gave up a rather short lift to an even better spot at the Austrian/Hungarian border. So if you want to go into Hungary and get a lift to Hegyeshalom take it and have yourself dropped off at the VIGNETTE station, where people pay for the highway toll.

Last big Raststätte before München!! Decent, although not the busiest. Definitely need a sign for whatever direction you need after München. I waited with an AT sign at the end of the station. Eventually got a ride from someone going all the way to Hungary.

This is not really a good spot as most people are just coming to Brno. To go to Slovakia/Austria it might be better to head for gas stations on respective roads. After around 20 minutes of asking around a guy offered to take us all the way to Szombathely (Hungary).

I don’t recomment this gas station, 90% of cars are going back to Vienna. We wanted go to Graz but end up in Hungary after 2 hours

There wasnt so much traffic when we were here (monday afternoon). We asked around trying to get to Budapest, luckily a kind gentleman from Netherlands offered to take us all the way to Barcs, south Hungary, which was nice as we were trying to get south eventually anyway.

I mean its all right. We got a ride to Bratislava after 10 minutes but I think we were very lucky, most of the traffic is austrian taxis, few cars from Slovakia but I wouldnt try getting a ride to Budapest or Hungary for that matter, almost no hungarian cars.

I wanted to go to Hungary and it was the perfect spot for that. Huge trafic,also early in the morning. I had to wait for a car which was not already full: many families travelled for a holiday, or workers towards Austria/Germany.

I travelled by bus 73 to the NIS petrol station, and asked the drivers whether they go towards Novi Sad. A delivery guy with a freezer van took me to the highway, I wanted to get there to be able to continue my trip towards Hungary.

good spot, not that much traffic, but if you're going north/towards hungary, all you need is a ride to the toll booth and you're golden
