(Two people 26F + 49M) This place has changed in recent times. The old border buildings and facilities have been demolished and new ones have been erected further up towards the border. But there is not much infrastructure there any more as cars rarely have to stop. As of July 26 this map and the satellite images are not up to date anymore and the place is a bit desolate with little shade. As of now this is not a location where you would like to get stuck for the night. There is one very suitable spot in front of the containers where people pay the toll for the highway. You can easily approach the drivers and ask for a lift. Lots of long distance traffic. Of course you can also put your thumb out but we didn't really try.

Got a ride from locals to Udvar, but there we got a little bit stuck. Maybe try asking someone whos going further.

Stood there for quite some time, most of the people were going to Pecs. Then another pair of hitchhikers caught up to us , eventually we got a ride for the four of us to Mohacs.

Stood for a while at the gas station, then a nice couple from Pecs took us to another gas station close to Pecs.

First guy we asked took us to an OMV near Dunaujvaros.

No shade, but excellent space to pull over with good visibility. Lots of traffic to various destinations. Took a campervan to campground Šobec.

I was waiting at the end of the last grass island (by the very exit there wasn't enough space to stop) hitchhiking sometimes with a right hand and sometitimes with a left one. Occasionally with both so I looked like Jesus 😁 There is no shade. The toilets are free. After 25 minutes Romanian lorry drivers picked me up and took to Arad.

I was waiting only 5 minuys and I got a lift to the last petrol station before Seged from two women and a young girl. I was waiting at the exit of the petrol station hitchhiking with a right hand cars leaving the station and with a left one those driving along the ramp joining highway. So sometimes I looked like Jesus 😁 There is no shade. The toilet and internet are free at the station.

At the very end of the petrol station there is little space, so I was waiting a bit closer, at the end of the last grass island, hitchhiking once with a right another time with a left hand. And sometimes with both, and then I looked like Jesus 😁 No shade, quite busy traffic, both cars and lorries. There is free internet, but the toilets are paid. After 15 minutes a lorry took me to another petrol station 55 kms along the highway. There were some road works so it took as nearly 1,5 hours 🙄

I only add that place is a bit uphill so lorry drivers may not be keen on stopping here. A 100 meters closer to the center there is a flat and long exit from the petrol station, but it's after a curve so visibility is limited. The choice is yours. No shade, cars coming in waves due to the traffic lights a bit before. After 15 minutes I got a ride to a petrol station 27 kms along the highway, from where quickly I got another lift. The couple even forced a chocolate bar on me 😊

Quite a lot of cara are passing this parking and gas station. Nice place, I recommend to stop cars closer to the exit from the station.

Nise spot, during this time 3 cars stopped, two - drive for a short distance, so we go further with third car. Drove to Ukraine.

This spot is bad if you're trying to go south and don't speak Hungarian. We tried asking around on the gas station, but most people were Hungarians who didn't speak English and it was hard for us to get our point across. After around 25 we took a bus to the south end of the city.

Perfect spot to Nagykanizsa

(Two people 26F + 49M) Some local people gave us advice to look for a trip towards Romania from here, because cars with Hungarian and Rumanian licence plates often take breaks on the parking lot. Many also come back from Austria for holiday with Austrian licensed plates and sometimes they are just taking cars to sell them in Hungary or Romania. There were plenty of people hanging out in groups but cars tend to be full. Of course you can also ask at the service station. In our case it gave up a rather short lift to an even better spot at the Austrian/Hungarian border. So if you want to go into Hungary and get a lift to Hegyeshalom take it and have yourself dropped off at the VIGNETTE station, where people pay for the highway toll.

Last big Raststätte before München!! Decent, although not the busiest. Definitely need a sign for whatever direction you need after München. I waited with an AT sign at the end of the station. Eventually got a ride from someone going all the way to Hungary.

This is not really a good spot as most people are just coming to Brno. To go to Slovakia/Austria it might be better to head for gas stations on respective roads. After around 20 minutes of asking around a guy offered to take us all the way to Szombathely (Hungary).

I don’t recomment this gas station, 90% of cars are going back to Vienna. We wanted go to Graz but end up in Hungary after 2 hours

There wasnt so much traffic when we were here (monday afternoon). We asked around trying to get to Budapest, luckily a kind gentleman from Netherlands offered to take us all the way to Barcs, south Hungary, which was nice as we were trying to get south eventually anyway.

I mean its all right. We got a ride to Bratislava after 10 minutes but I think we were very lucky, most of the traffic is austrian taxis, few cars from Slovakia but I wouldnt try getting a ride to Budapest or Hungary for that matter, almost no hungarian cars.

good spot, not that much traffic, but if you're going north/towards hungary, all you need is a ride to the toll booth and you're golden

Petrol station near transit road to Hungary, although on opposite side of the road :< . You can asked around or go on opposite side and catch on bus station

Was trying to get to Hungary. Wrote Subotica on sign and got a ride by the guy going there. Asked to drop me off at Subotica toll station. I think its better to write Subotica because from what I saw there was not a lot of people going to Hungary so its better to probably just try to get to Subotica and then try Hungary. There was a looot of traffic but most of it cleared up after Novi Sad

If you want to go to Poprad people will stop all the time. If not there are some truck drivers who will probably take you to Hungary or Romania.

Tried this spot to get a ride to Hungary as an alternative to the highway entry near the UFO bridge thing since that one wasn't working at all in direction Györ/Budapest (with big sign). Here was very dead however, even though cars have lots of space to stop. Probably lots of traffic moving only into the suburbs. Only use as a last resort. You can probably camp very well in the nearby forest though

Not so frequent gas station, but last in Slovakia in a way to Austria/Hungary. We (couple) spent some time here and asking people directly and also with sign to Vienna/Graz, but we didn’t manage it to Graz that day.

thumbing didn't seem to work, barely anyone stopped to ask where we were going (2 of us), and they mostly went either to the city or Maribor direction (we were trying for Hungary straight)

I think the spot is great to go Slovakia but I was even luckier, I managed to go to Miskolc, Hungary with a Slovakia sign. The cars can see you from a distance and the bus stop is perfect for stopping.

Typical highway station and rest place. Mostly trucks taking obligatory breaks. With some patience you can easily get at least to Ljubljana, with some Celje/Maribor or even Austria or Hungary

Got a lift to Sopron after asking an Hungarian old man. Better chances to go to Hungary than in the Gas Station at Vienna East

Really difficult place to go to Hungary, there is like 95% of locals and 5% that goes to Bratislava (we could go there 2 times). We took just a lift to the airport and see what happens.
