This is not a recommendation for this specific spot but for the area of Wayanad and the area going to north to Heggadadevankote. When I was walking by the side of the road, people spontaneously stopped and asked where I was going and gave me rides. So I didn't even have to actively ask for rides.

Not much traffic, but hitchhiking is easy throughout the Spiti Valley. Don't forget to get your permit in Kaza. Just signal at the roadside that the cars should drive slowly.

Empty, very well paved highway. We walked on some sandy paths up to the highway and pretty much the first truck stopped, going all the way to Kashmir. Very friendly guys, delighted to have hitchhikers, they kept making instagram reels. After a while they asked a few uncomfortable sexual questions, but as we were a married couple we didn't feel unsafe. Might be different for solo females. Otherwise, surprisingly good hitchhiking experiences in India, always picked up in less than 5 minutes, nobody asks for money, everyone genuinely curious and delighted to meet you and taking endless pictures.

Buses to Bikaner go a long route through Phalodi and we knew we could save several hours if we hitched the highway. A private car stopped and tried to convince us to go with him to Phalodi where we could get the bus, but we asked to be dropped at the onramp.

We just waved at cars and soon one stopped; nobody speaks English nor understands Google translate, so quickly there was a crowd around us trying to figure out what we wanted. Everyone was friendly enough; they drove us into town where they wanted us to go into their shop, but we politely declined and kept walking.

Anywhere along this stretch of road seems like a great starting point for heading into Suru valley. In this case a ride to Lankarche within a minute.

Resorted to hitching when I missed my bus. No sign, but somehow it worked out!

Did the same trip, with 5 or 6 vehicles though, in 3 awesome days. None of the drivers were drinking, instead the truck drivers cooked a meal at some point and shared it with us!

I hitched from here to Leh (and back) just after the road was opened, it was fantastic. I thought I must start early to make it to Leh in one day, but that's wrong, u better take your time for that trip, there are so many camps in stunning locations where you can sleep, eat and continue the next day. With private cars (many indian tourists) or a truck. Best road I ever hitched

Lots of trucks passing here going to Manali. We found a ride all the way there. It was quite an adventure. Took us 2 days, with a night stop in a basecamp. The drivers were friendly and helpful, although they seemed to be drinking during the whole trip!

Many trucks passing in the direction of Leh. After 15 minutes one of them stopped and offered us a ride for 200INR.

The third car that passed offered to take me anywhere I needed to go. He was coming home from work & was from South India (Andhra Pradesh), I decided to get off on Scripture & Ave C, where I didn't get a ride & just walked. This wasn't a great spot in terms of pulling over, but there's lots of grass & the road is only one lane.

I've thumbed in this spot before without any luck, but have had lots of success recently. Anywhere on Ave C, there are people who will pick you up, mostly people from other countries or chill UNT students. I got a ride from a UNT worker from India to Bruce Hall where he turned, and later that day I was here and my roommate happened to pick me up- I mention that here as it won't garner a second hitch review & and it was on the same day. At the music building there is also a good spot right near the main entrance on Ave C where there’s lots of room for a car to pull up. You can also hitch almost on the road as mostly cars take the left lane rather than the loading lane.
