An all right spot for yazd. But most cars will go to the highway from another way, so few cars. But all the cars go in yazd direction.rating: 4/5, wait: 20 min 👍, ride: 204 km ↘

Good stop going south. Only thing is most cars want money, and most people are stopping to earn money as "taxis". Beware of this and mention if you do not want to pay.rating: 4/5, wait: 20 min 👍, ride: 2 km ↑

This time i entered Iran from Esendere the first time was in Gürbulak. We were two and snow was on the roadsides. We stopped some taxis and that's totally normal. They don't want you to stand in the cold. One of them passed 3 times within 20 minutes, so he finally decided to give us a free ride to the police checkpoint and intersection to Urmia. From there, after a minute a man took us to Urmia and gave us 3$ in toman to pay for 2 bus tickets to Tabriz, he didn't accept anything in change. We had a stunning sunset over Urmia lake, which takes 30 minutes to cross 🌅rating: 5/5, wait: 20 min 👍, ride: 187 km →

I managed to score a free cab ride out to this spot so I got very lucky. Not sure how else you'd reach here without paying, but it's a long way from the city centre and the traffic can be a nightmare. Because Tehran.―Looking for Stu, December 2015

Anywhere along this road is good for either direction. Stand at one of the speed bumps for maximum attention, and don't forget to ensure the ride is free beforehand.―Anonymous, December 2015

Kadjaran is a small town that everyone crosses on the way from Kapan to Meghri, Iran and opposite. If you are going north, find a car going to Kapan and take the bus number 5 to the eastern end of the city, where the road intersection goes left to Yerevan. I had a young guy offering me coffee, taking me to the next village, waiting with me for the Kadjaran-Kapan bus and then finding a friend of his to drive me there.rating: 5/5, wait: 10 min 👍, ride: 20 km ↗

Arriving here from central Armenia is easy and fun - check the spot in Areni. Leaving to anywhere up north can take long time! I did it 2 years ago from Iran and got stuck in Lehvaz village of Meghri, where a farmer gave me a couch and a truck took me to Kapan in the morning. I did it again during a long exploration of the country this week and got a ride to Meghri after 2 hours, waited 2 hours in the evening, camped and waited 6 hours in the morning. I also walked up to Lehvaz, it is a better spot than Meghri. It was already my 60th day in Armenia, been to all directions except of remote villages in Syunik and northwest. So i can say Agarak is hard to leave, unless you speak Farsi or Russian so you can approach drivers easily.
Kapan is easy to leave. I waited 5 minutes. Good luck

Super spot. 4 colourful wanderers, we camped in Areni floodgate and came here at 11am brought by a friend's car to find a direct ride to Iran. After 5 minutes playing music and singing by smiley food vendors, two armenian trucks stopped for us and drove all the way to Agarak, which border i really missed since 2 years ago.We had signs to Meghri but they were really useless, as everyone would understand we're going as much south as possible. I'm in Samuel Hostel in Agarak, Iran will see me again in winter, going back to Georgia tomorrow!

Good spot for hitching South. A sign for Iran had me picked up in 20 mins, but there's a lot of local traffic. I always just try to hitch with higher end vehicles. Lada's and such cars are almost always local, and will almost always ask you for money.―Anonymous, October 2015

Just right after the roundabout it might be possible, but there are also many taxis and buses stopping. Better walk a couple of hundred meters to a traffic light. Hitch right after it, where there is enough space to stop for cars. Beware: this road is incredibly busy, and besides right after the roundabout or this traffic light there's no (i.e. zero) space for cars to stop. But don't worry, this is Iran and your "savior" is out there. I waited only 5 minutes but feared that I would have to wait for a long, long time. Not the best spot in my opinion - so take any car that gives you a lift...―Tomtom, October 2014

After crossing the border into Iran most likely there will be no car or truck (no private cars and very few trucks are crossing this border it seems), so you best walk to the next city Bajgiran - an easy 30 minutes downhill walk - and start to hitch from there. Not much traffic though.―Anonymous, October 2014

It's not easy to HH here as most of the cars who stop for you will be cars. Try to explain them where you are going and that you are travelling without money/paying (there is no word for HHing in Iran and it's not a known concept). People are friendly, so a taxi going east can take you free of charge.―Anonymous, March 2014
