All along the route from dujok to Amedi, to Soran sulaminyeh akra and back cars will stop in minutes. Even from the middle of villages. People are extremely kind and will invite you to stay and be hosted, for meals and tea. Kurdistan is the bestrating: 5/5, wait: 2 min

Somewhere here is cheaper shared taxis to duhok. 5$ ( 2025) instead of main garage. Get a bus from city center towards telskuf and get off at duhok garage. (Just taxis on side of road) .rating: 3/5, wait: 60 min

Checkpoint was extremely rude and unhelpful. Refused to help stop a car. Told the current driver to drop me at the bus station.rating: 1/5

Checkpoint would not let me walk out of Samarra. All the officers that saw me walking in town asked where I was headed and redirected me to the mosque.
Had a local friend talk to the checkpoint... he explained I was hitchhiking and then they helped stop a car to get me out!

Direction Barzan and Akre (beautiful old town btw!) there's not much traffic, but as this is Kurdistan and people are incredibly friendly the first car will stop for you. The drive from here to Akre is immensly beautiful and a small hitchhiking adventure.―Anonymous, July 2014

As usual: just go to the edge of town and start hitchhiking. From the city center it's nearly an hour walk though. Direct lift all the way to Amedi within 15 minutes.―Anonymous, July 2014

Quite easy to catch rides on both side of the border. Just avoid the taxis - on the Iraq-Kurdistan side you might have to make it clear before you enter a car.―Anonymous, August 2014

The way to Iraq.walk over the river and reach out of the town. Many cars are actually taxis taking people to the border. Trucks will be for free though.
