Stood there going East. Not a single car entering the autostrada on a rather busy Monday morning (at least cars went out). Maybe it’s got to do with the time idk. I’d recommend ++ walking to the service station a hundred meters west (accessible by foot)

Accessible by foot from the S D di Piave city (where I got dropped off the previous evening) + possible to pitch a tent in the woods nearby. Got a lift halfway through Trieste. Great spot and lots of people/trucks going through

Great spot for going East (Ljubljana in my case). Asked everyone for a lift and a truck driver took me on his way to Zagreb. Employees said hi, pretty cool folks. But I didn’t dare take my LJ sign out in case the Police stopped by (happened to me in Padova)

Got kicked out straight away by the cops (south side) They asked me to leave the highway system and walk (via the overpass) to Padua.

Found a ride decently fast but only to the Padova gas station.

Found a ride going East that dropped me off at the San Bonifacio Autogrill. Many cars passing by but very few stopped. There’s a bit of space for them to stop by the station but limited visibility and they ride fast as well. Probably the best option to leave the city going East though.

Decent spot. I used my thumb. Cars not tooo fast and can pull over.

Really busy. Good spot to go to Venezia or other destinations south west. I had to go to Slovenia and it turned out to be a bit tough. Most cars were completely packed. A nice Italian Family brought me to Triest.

Many people going through the station but many for Milano. I wanted to do past the city towards Verona. Got a ride quickly to Bergamo with the hope of going further east. No sign needed in my case, easy to talk to people at the pump or on their way out. Bathroom accessible for free and lots of shade.

I waited right after the roundabout. Seemed like a nice spot towards Milano, although you have to make a choice between the two routes people come from (Torino or Settimo). I chose Torino and got picked up almost to Milano with the hope of reaching Verona. I had a sing with Milano as this section serves many routes.

I waited on a sunny Thursday morning (July) right after the roundabout, aiming for Torino. The spot is just fine, although I believe I got lucky to be on board after only 10 minutes. The driver took me all the way to Torino. PS : I tried talking to people at the parking lot right before the roundabout but all vehicles seemed uninhabited.

Lidl was best spot i have found in city, but still had to get out by train after two failed days ( CARE CARABINERES OR POLITZEI THEY CHECK ALL CITY )

this spot is in the middle of nowhere, but hopefully people that go through go only to schio

A lots of trucks driver coming here to sleep and leaving the day after in the morning. Go speak with them so you can planify to leave together early in the morning Most of them are going past italy so it’s good for long ride

Good spot as every autogrill in northern italy. I walked 30min to spend the right by the lake. Décent spot, possible to shower with the water of the lake. Not really swimmable

Didn't get a lift. Heading to Slovenia, had a sign for Tarvisio then changed it to Italy. Tried 30 minutes one evening then 30 the next morning. Could have tried longer but caught a bus to the border. Spot seems good, space to stop at the bus stop but cars are going quite fast and perhaps not all of them are going to Italy.

Best spot to get to Italy from Boveč. The cars can stop right next to you or about 50m further. Two cool Norwegian guys took me all the way to Venice!

It’s pretty hard for cars to stop here, but some friendly young people took me to Nice. From what i could find, it’s the only good way to get on the highway in the direction of Nice if your startingpoint is Menton. I actually started in Ventimiglia, but I took a train across the border, since hitchhiking next to a border (especially in Italy) didn’t seem like a good idea.

Hitchhiked here for five hours trying to go west and nobody took us. We came back the next day and tried for two more hours and then gave up. It’s also the local hangout spot for the police officers and (apparently) hitchhiking is illigal in Italy, so they kept sending us away.

Waited here for about thirty minuted until I got lucky and was taken to Padova. There wasn’t a lot of traffick and spots like these usually don’t work, especcially in Italy. However, I do think its the best option in the area.

Waited at the end of the gasstation and got picked up in like half an hour. The guy was really nice and he took me all the way to Belinzona. There are a lot of tourists there in the summertime and most of them are heading to Italy through the Gothard tunnel. I think it’s a great spot to get through the Gothard tunnel. There was a really long line before the tunnel though, so we went over the Gothard passe with some great views.

Great spot to catch cars going towards italy. I recommend the walk up here if you get let off at the roundabout like i did. Its not too long, just follow the forest path, and here you have good visibility and cars plenty space to pull over. The spot on the turn before is bad: barrier blocking cars from pulling over

Very good spot to go to briancon or italy

Not a good spot to get closer to Italy, people are nice and waving but most of them are locals

Got a car heading the frontiere with Italy because they stopped on the parking of burger king, not a lot of space to park otherway

Very very good spot if you are heading to Milano, Brescia or Verona; you can have a ride in 20’ max. A lot of traffic thanks to the Autogrill. However, very bad spot to reach the north of Italy/A22/Trento (our case). If you are heading this way we recommend to go to Verona and to take another ride from there.

Sunder and his cousin brought me here and offered me coffee. It's Italy so I did not wanted to risk anything and just asked around in Italian. Found someone after half hour (I was taking my time) thanks Roberto! The type of guy who is dressed well, drive a beautiful car, you never know don't judge people!

I asked directly for austria, didnt want to hitch on the highway in italy so up north, they tend to be more strict. Most cars were not going on the highway, but finally one took me after a while there. Did not ask trucks!

Plenty of room to stop and cars not even going that fast. We were trying to catch someone as the bus we waited for didn't show up. Gave up after 15 minutes to make it on time for the next bus in a different spot. But still I believe it is very hard to catch someone solely relying on thumb up in italy. Asking directly is way easier.
