You’ve gotta hop a fence and it’s a bit of a trek to get there but good to find long distance. Make sure they’re going a fair way before hopping in. Had to turn down 2 before getting one to rome

Definitely got lucky, scooped up by some guys in a work Ute. Only went to sanremo but was happy to get off the border

After a few minutes, a young Polish guy gave me a ride to Klagenfurt.

Nice spot. A lot of tourists are passing by slowly. After 10 minutes, a local couple with a campervan picked me up and took me in the direction of Austria.

I don’t remember the exact spot they brought me, but it was a gas station next to Milan. I was waiting more than hour when someone stopped.

I think this is a pretty decent spot. There is a lot of cars, they stop for a long time at the traffic lights and there is a place to pull over.

I gues it is the best stop going south in Milan. A lot of people go long distances and everyone is hiting highway. Was standing infront the traffic lights with sign to Genova, a cool surfer stoped me and I went to Lavento surfing with him

If there is no other cars ocuping bridg stop it is great otherwise you dont get that much space. After a while two french women stoped me to my Monaco sing and give me a lift to france border

Honestly one of the best spots of my life. A lot of cars, you see them coming from far away, many tourists. A couple of Hungarians drove me to Ljubljana. I had a sign "LJ - Zagreb" and came there using a local bus from Trieste (check the number on Google maps, I do not remember).

There is good traffic going south and cars can pull over on the huge gravel area. We waited an hour until a woman took us to briancon. Used France sign

Lots of space to stop and free toilet. Good for going towards Milan and Italy in general

Tried again to find a ride after I failed on the previous two points. If some one actually have a car mostly he has his family or dog. So no place. Since Villach is near Italy alot of cars come her and work here. So trying to communicate with some one with Italian plate always failed. I asked around 15 persons. My last plan was to take a flixbus to Udine €17 or Venice €23. Luckily some one gave me ride to next village on the highway. He said there are highr chances for you there.

Very nice spot, cars go slowly and they can pull over to pick you up. Not all drivers going to Ljubljana or Italy take this road, but many of them do. It is the best spot for Italy and Ljubljana in my opinion. At certain times, you can also catch some shade. :) We are two boys:p

A lots of trucks driver coming here to sleep and leaving the day after in the morning. Go speak with them so you can planify to leave together early in the morning Most of them are going past italy so it’s good for long ride

Good spot but far from Ancona center, Italy law says u can't hitchhike there but i bought coffee and talked to station customers without sign

not a great spot - but for italy it’s kind of okay, like other people said - it is a scenic route but not many people stop for hitchhikers, we got a little push towards schio but not great one

Good spot as every autogrill in northern italy. I walked 30min to spend the right by the lake. Décent spot, possible to shower with the water of the lake. Not really swimmable

Didn't get a lift. Heading to Slovenia, had a sign for Tarvisio then changed it to Italy. Tried 30 minutes one evening then 30 the next morning. Could have tried longer but caught a bus to the border. Spot seems good, space to stop at the bus stop but cars are going quite fast and perhaps not all of them are going to Italy.

Best spot to get to Italy from Boveč. The cars can stop right next to you or about 50m further. Two cool Norwegian guys took me all the way to Venice!

It’s pretty hard for cars to stop here, but some friendly young people took me to Nice. From what i could find, it’s the only good way to get on the highway in the direction of Nice if your startingpoint is Menton. I actually started in Ventimiglia, but I took a train across the border, since hitchhiking next to a border (especially in Italy) didn’t seem like a good idea.

Hitchhiked here for five hours trying to go west and nobody took us. We came back the next day and tried for two more hours and then gave up. It’s also the local hangout spot for the police officers and (apparently) hitchhiking is illigal in Italy, so they kept sending us away.

Waited here for about thirty minuted until I got lucky and was taken to Padova. There wasn’t a lot of traffick and spots like these usually don’t work, especcially in Italy. However, I do think its the best option in the area.

Waited at the end of the gasstation and got picked up in like half an hour. The guy was really nice and he took me all the way to Belinzona. There are a lot of tourists there in the summertime and most of them are heading to Italy through the Gothard tunnel. I think it’s a great spot to get through the Gothard tunnel. There was a really long line before the tunnel though, so we went over the Gothard passe with some great views.

Great spot to catch cars going towards italy. I recommend the walk up here if you get let off at the roundabout like i did. Its not too long, just follow the forest path, and here you have good visibility and cars plenty space to pull over. The spot on the turn before is bad: barrier blocking cars from pulling over

got a ride to Koper near Italy. this spot is better for cars to stop and collect traffic from both lanes. thumb
