(ignore my first review below) Honestly, it's a great spot. Close to the onramp of the highway, enough space at the 7-eleven parking lot and lot's of traffic. I did not think it would be so easy but after 20min I got a ride all the way to Fukuoka. They did not take the highway but the slower, non toll road but whatever.

No shade at all so gets very hot. Huge SA, there's also the benefit that many highway buses stop here so it's a nice backup to have. Looks to be accessible by foot

This time it was harder. A nice man gave me a ride to a SA even though he was not going to that direction at all.

This is easily accessible by foot. Not very good in the morning since there's little traffic. Must be very good in the evenings when tourists head home. Ample space for cars to pull over (southward direction). Might be difficult to other places that are not Takayama

Some traffic on the weekend but the highway splits shortly so you need someluck to find a person that goes to your direction + takes you. Reachable by bus and a short walk. Sign in Kanji and some waiting time later I got a ride. Drivers took a detour to drop me off which was really nice. As always: Look tidy, wait infront of store/toilet and just chill.

Remote area and few cars. There is a gas station and nothing else much. I don't recommend walking to the highway as the onramp is very small itself. Some locals stopped and took me, which is more based on luck then anything

Smaller station and little off the highway. Medium traffic in the afternoon but almost no shade. Small station = all the people can see you and need to walk past you. I was refining my kanji sign while a port worker approved me. He took me all the way to my hostel and even dropped me off right in front off it. Obviously he gave me some tea and water before letting me go.

Big station with very little traffic = hard to catch all the people. Toilets are a little far from the store so you need to decide for one. To draw a little more attention I got rid of my sign and started writing a new one. Buch of people came over to check on the foreigner writing kanji. Worked great and I got a ride quickly.

The spot was very good. It can be accessed very easily through a passage behind the convenience store and you won't be walking where cars drive. The station has everything, toilets, wifi, electrical plugs for charging your devices, Food etc. I got picked up after one hour waiting time on a Monday. I started at 10am and got a lift at 11am. It took me a total of 4 rides to get to Nagoya station and the drivers were always very respectful and curious why I'm hitchhiking in japan. Tomorrow I'll continue hitchhiking to Osaka and after that to kumamoto, just to see how far I can go. On this trip I never had any worries about unsafe road conditions, people being rude, not having food or a toilet. Everything was available all the time and it was a very good experience.

I waited for 40min at 9h in the morning on a Sunday. Then got ride to Fukuoka (I was heading Osaka). I asked the driver to stop in a car park on the highway. Although is prohibitted is the best place to get a ride. I rode to Osaka from Nagasaki with 4 different cars, wating an average of 20 min from car to car. Hitchhiking in Japan is great!!
