Wanted to go to Tallin, go so lucky, waited 3 min a friendly Lithuanian truck going to Tallin picked me up

A lot of local traffic towards Liepaja. Very good visibility and a lot of place to stop a car. Easy hitchhiking.

Towards Estonia, really hard road to catch a car, tried since Koni by the side of the road, however it is very uncomfortable road with no roadsides for cars to stop, as well as very little traffic and those that do pass you are either with full cars or lorries with high speeds, wait times of 30-80 minutes expected

Towards Ruijena/Valka/Valmiermuiža, quite an awkward spot but a local going by would sooner or later stop for you and take you a bit further, this spot is only good for small cars, wait times of 10-25 minutes expected

Bus stop towards Valmiera, good visibility and a wide bus stop, cars aren't speeding that much around here yet and with a bit of luck you'll get a car within 5-10 minutes

Bus stop towards Staicele, Aloja, superb visibility on this straight road and a pretty good bus stop, due to the low traffic density you can actually stop anything around here, wait times of 5-15 minutes expected

I think it might be the best place of you want to skip Riga. Just ask drivers if they are going to Bauska or firther. As I am lithuanian I could just ask lithuanian drivers and I instantly got a ride to Panevezys.

Amazing spot. Got good reactions and eventually a ride all the way to Tallin. Used a sign to Eesti.

Many cars but had a feeling that they weren’t comfortable stopping here as they would have needed to drive all the way to the gas station. Ended up moving to the gas station’s exit and got a ride from there immediately.

Not the most ideal spot for cars to stop but good flow of cars and visibility.

I would say its an amazing spot. Local took us here and when we were here cars were going were slow because of some sort of traffic jam. And the driver said that its often like that here. So I would say if thats true its amazing.

Just didnt feel right this spot to go towards Estonia. Most of the traffic goes down to Daugavpils it seems more likely. Also two lanes and the first one is often occupied by trucks

Quite a shit spot. Akward for cars to stop. We got offered two shorter rides to surrounding areas but a guy on his day off offered to take us to the A1 right after Riga. Seems mostly local traffic. Not much people going onwards to Estonia

stood next to the highway for almost 5 hours, noone stopped. Apparently none was going to Tallin in the direction to Tallin? So I walked there and in the span of 5 minutes i caught a ride directly to Tallin depends on luck

If you are trying to go past Riga i would probably not recommend choosing this road because after it becomes only local road more. But we were going to Salaspils so that was all good but after getting out of it wasnt so easy. The spot itself is alright. There is quite a lot of space to stop even tho you just stand on the road but the outside lane is long so all good

Great spot to get to Latvia. Many cars with Latvian license plate were stopping here. We were lucky a stopped a guy travelling to Riga.

Got a ride directly to Latvia, just before Liepaja. A lot of LT cars are going to the campings near Liepaja during the summer and it's never should wait a long time here to get a ride.

Stood with signs Kaunas, LT and "Uz Latviju?" We were lucky that a Polish couple spotted our Latvia sign and took us all the way to Liepāja.

No one goes anywhere apart from Kaunas. Horrible spot to get a ride to Klaipeda or somewhere near Latvia. (you only might find someone going to Vilnus there). If you r stuck there, go to Mega Store and then walk to other spots.

Tough spot. Not a busy gas station but you can hitch the road from the gas station exit. Didn't have any luck to Latvia from here, only found a ride to the next village. If you wait long enough, getting to Riga shouldn't be a problem though.

Stood at the end of the gas station to catch the road + people leaving the station and quickly found a ride a bit forwards. Probably better to get a ride to Latvia from here though, than to get shorter ones.

Fast speeds but a lot of traffic. Good for Klaipeda but also north towards Latvia. Have a big sign. I had "LV" written and it took me on the right road but not too far.

Perfect place, just check the ferry arrival times, lots of trucks to Latvia and Estonia.

Good spot to catch cars/trucks out of the ferry, there's space to stop and entrance to a parking. If you come in the Viking Line you will have time to catch at least the last half of the vehicles heading out. Got a truck almost all the way to Riga. Solo female, in the middle of a storm, sign Latvia.

Great spot towards Latvia, got taken to the border, easy to continue from there.

very convenient spot to get to Klaipeda/Latvia. to conveniently get to the place take bus 32 until "9-ojo forto muziejus" bus stop from the city centre. costs 1 Euro but you can not pay if you're greedy, no one checks anyway.

Moved here from the other spot next to the Sillaotsa bus stop (waited there 2,5h). From here I got a ride in 10min directly to Ikla (Estonia-Latvia border). Stand next to the motorway at the traffic lights, use a thumb preferably. 16 Jul 2025

Many cars that go to the Latvia. We talked to 3 drivers and found a drive almost to Riga

We tried different signs, but only a few cars stopped. Most went to Klaipeda. Not the best spot to go to Latvia. Very much very fast traffic, but the spot itself is alright.

Wild camping at the water side, and started early in the morning, a man from Latvia picked me up when he was going to work in Bogen

Amazing gas station for either direction, try to find PL cars for going Poland and EST,LV for Latvia/Estonia, a lot of international cars around here, ask around, you'll most likely find someone going your way sooner or later, usually sooner, within 10-20 minutes. You can also hitchhike next to the gas station towards Panevežys if you find no cars going your way (north), still a very good bus stop also
