Towards Valka, there's a bus stop here not marked on the map, but honestly it's not worth it, everyone speeds and it's kind of hidden behind the bollards so therefore just stay in Strenci or at least the other side of Staklupite river, wait times of 100+ minutes here

If headed to Strenci, this is a deadpoint in the road, most cars turn to Plani or Trikata, walk at least to Vijciems roads, here you'd wait 40+ minutes, very low traffic

Towards Strenci, locals head this road to there, little traffic but hitchable, wait times of 20-40 minutes expected

Towards Strenci, nice long part of a road, you can also try in Brutuli, but there's cars turning from both sideroads as well, so you have to keep that in mind, wait times of 20-30 minutes expected

Towards Smiltene, amazing wide shoulder and bus stop, everyone heads there too, wait times of 5 minutes expected

Towards Gulbene/Balvi, mostly long distance drivers past this point, wait times of 5-20 minutes, low traffic and will be able to stop only personal cars

Towards Gulbene/Balvi, nice little bus stop and lowered speeds, but lacks lights so therefore you can only hitch here during the day, wait times of 10-20 minutes, not too much traffic

Towards Gulbene/Balvi, amazing bus stop, not the most amount of traffic but you'll get a car even in dark within 10 minutes

Towards Lithuania, first somewhat okay spot, even though as there are loads of good places for cars to stop along the way from Auce, noone will cuz about 95% of the cars are locals headed to any of the border villages as well as this road being generally little used, try to aim for Lithuanian passenger cars, wait times of 30-50 minutes here, anywhere before probably 60+ minutes

Towards Auce, low traffic but great town for hitching, low speeds, wait times of 5-15 minutes expected, everyone heads to Auce here so you have guaranteed to get a car at least to there

Towards Auri, you can hitch anywhere in the city limits of Dobele as the road has wide enough shoulders for cars and the speeds are slow, good traffic, wait times of 10-20 minutes expected, enough light for hitching at dark as well

Great bus stop towards Saldus/Liepaja/Dobele, whilst you don't get all of the traffic it is very convenient for cars to stop, lower speeds and great street lights, loads of cars etc etc, wait times of 5-15 minutes expected

Towards Saldus, Dobele etc, will disagree with previous comments, at least during the winter I would recommend using against the side of the road, poorly plowed, speeding cars and virtually nowhere to stop, also no street lights noticed, would expect here to be for more than a hour waiting for the golden ticket of car

Very easy to get lift to Sigulda, lot of people going to Sigulda to shop or for family, stop is on bus stop very good place

Not bad spot, go as close to lights as possible, the car going slow, there is place to stop. Almost every car go to Riga, people are very kind and speak English

Big truck parking area with cafe, free toilets (for truckers but nobody really cares, use the doors with truck signs) and I was told there is a shower for truckers, so perfect spot for you to get freshened up before asking all the truckers for their destinations, more trucks towards south than north, would recommend asking around here early in the morning or in the evening, during the daytime probably not the best spot, but you will get a long distance ride for sure here

Truck parking for lorries headed towards Estonia, would recommend coming here early in the morning from Riga and talk with the drivers, other times probably not so great

Fast traffic, but a kind family did manage to stop within the space. They gave me a short intra-city ride to a better spot for rides North to Estonia.

It was two of us (guy and girl). We waited for 30 minutes on a Wednesday morning and got a direct ride to Riga on a truck. Great spot, cars drive slowly amd there is a huge space for cars and trucks to stop.

Towards the ring road and Strenci/Valka direction, good for dark times as this spot has great street lights, got offers for any of the Rujiena and Mazsalaca directions as well as cars going towards Valka but definitely lesser of them than the other two. Still the wait times are not so bad as people will understand you want to skip Valmiera, wait times of 20-40 minutes to be expected

Indeed ideal spot for going basically anywhere towards Riga or major cities in Latvia, as well as even further south, wide enough bus stop to have a lorry stop, decent street lights for the darker times, okay amount of traffic, wait times of 10-25 minutes expected

Tough spot. Not a busy gas station but you can hitch the road from the gas station exit. Didn't have any luck to Latvia from here, only found a ride to the next village. If you wait long enough, getting to Riga shouldn't be a problem though.

Stood at the end of the gas station to catch the road + people leaving the station and quickly found a ride a bit forwards. Probably better to get a ride to Latvia from here though, than to get shorter ones.

Fast speeds but a lot of traffic. Good for Klaipeda but also north towards Latvia. Have a big sign. I had "LV" written and it took me on the right road but not too far.

Perfect place, just check the ferry arrival times, lots of trucks to Latvia and Estonia.

Good spot to catch cars/trucks out of the ferry, there's space to stop and entrance to a parking. If you come in the Viking Line you will have time to catch at least the last half of the vehicles heading out. Got a truck almost all the way to Riga. Solo female, in the middle of a storm, sign Latvia.

Great spot towards Latvia, got taken to the border, easy to continue from there.

very convenient spot to get to Klaipeda/Latvia. to conveniently get to the place take bus 32 until "9-ojo forto muziejus" bus stop from the city centre. costs 1 Euro but you can not pay if you're greedy, no one checks anyway.

Moved here from the other spot next to the Sillaotsa bus stop (waited there 2,5h). From here I got a ride in 10min directly to Ikla (Estonia-Latvia border). Stand next to the motorway at the traffic lights, use a thumb preferably. 16 Jul 2025

Many cars that go to the Latvia. We talked to 3 drivers and found a drive almost to Riga

We tried different signs, but only a few cars stopped. Most went to Klaipeda. Not the best spot to go to Latvia. Very much very fast traffic, but the spot itself is alright.

Wild camping at the water side, and started early in the morning, a man from Latvia picked me up when he was going to work in Bogen

Amazing gas station for either direction, try to find PL cars for going Poland and EST,LV for Latvia/Estonia, a lot of international cars around here, ask around, you'll most likely find someone going your way sooner or later, usually sooner, within 10-20 minutes. You can also hitchhike next to the gas station towards Panevežys if you find no cars going your way (north), still a very good bus stop also

Not a single good spot in Misso to go towards Latvia, I just kept walking on the road since really little traffic, you'll be better off at the straight parts of the road than here

After the closure of the Russian border the traffic has dried up, will take quite some time to get a car towards Latvia, waiting time of 20-30 minutes

Even though it doesn't look that promising the spot just keeps delivering, lots of traffic to Latvia and Lithuania and somehow they always stop here within 10-20 minutes, in itself it's just a bus stop and not many cars turning from Linnavere road

before the nightfall (around 20h in the summer, meaning actually no real night), some cars in two hours, most of the cars going the other direction, it is mostly a road for tourist, because it is on the coast. probably tourist from central Europa come this way north and go south in central of Latvia, still possible to hitchhike and have more luck on daytime

remeber, you only need a ride 10km till the crossing of the via baltica if you want to go towards latvia. ditch the sign and only thumb, its a bit frustrating but it will work! from the crossing its stupidly easy to go north

Best spot in direction to Latvia, Riga as there is a bus stop so cars have space to stop.

To Latvia. Great spot, high speeds but tons of room for them to see you and stop.
