Started walking here after being dropped off by the exit from the highway. Got very lucky and someone stopped upon seeing us. Not safe and there's nowhere to go for many kilometers, the forest is fenced. Wide hard shoulder though

Rn (may 2026) there are roadworks on highway and there's no acceleration lane, so stopping cars on highway was impossible (high speed, lots of cars, NO place to stop); my advice: plz find a better place for hh; but if you must: we were standing on the exit from both gas stations, before a motorway -not much traffic, many people just passed us unaffected

Was asking everyone if they were going to Vilnius in Friday evening and most of the rraffic was going still to Kaunas and other towns around. But we found a guy after 15 minutes that goes. I am lithuanian so maybe that helped but every person was very friednly in answering me. Not the usual sight when i use english in other places

this spot has much place to stop, even if standing in the end of the side entrance road (which I recommend, safety reasons); we caught a ride straight to Klaipėda; though be cautious because there's no sidewalk to reach this spot

decent visibility, decent traffic, bus stop so much place to stop, even for a truck - unfortunately place is in middle of nowhere, so no shops nearby

asked the first and only guy at the gas station and got lucky. he was going to Suwalki. it's not over, but definitely not the best place.

spent an hour overall and the ride was short. probably I was unlucky, the spor must function more efficiently.

i don't like it. gravel road on the edge forms a steep angle and cars can't drive deep enough and hesitate. go closer to the bus stop/gas station turn.

revisited this spot in the early morning(8 a.m.). SIGN IS REQUIRED! lots and lots of cars, which is a bit bad, because they can't change lanes, and when coming out of a dark tunnel they barely see you and struggle to make a decision. still got a ride and it's worth it because it's a city centre.

I also find this petrol station amazing, been twice, found both times a car to Poland, with last time the first car being asked going all the way to south of Warszawa. Great petrol station definitely, wait times of 5-25 minutes expected to find a ride the least to Polish border

Towards Kaunas, loads of truckers in the petrol station to ask around, a lot of truckers use this for the night and longer stops tho, if you don't find one going fast enough in the petrol station, you can try your luck and get a personal car from highway, however it is very uncomfortable for cars to stop (still managed to stop a car with a trailer), wait times of 10-40 minutes expected

Towards Kaunas, uncomfortable spot, but doable, cars on highway are less likely to stop, so best bet is to aim for local cars joining the highway, wait times of 10-30 minutes expected

Wide shoulder, amazing spot to get towards Via Baltica highway or nearby villages, low speeds, wait time of 5 minutes expected

Towards Paobelys, no luck around here tho, didn't get a car anywhere along the road, quite uncomfortable for cars to stop also and the bridge in Kedainiai being under construction at 2026, doesn't make life easier, would probably give it better chance after the bridge is up again, for now avoid

A great spot going further south, ask for a driver to let out you on the highway shoulder if they are going to Vilnius and you are headed towards Kaunas, good visibility and okay speeds, wait times of 5-15 minutes

We were 2 males, very early morning so it took a while because traffic was low, but in theory a perfect spot for cars to stop going south towards Lithuania and Bauska. Got a ride with sign ”Lietuva” to Bauska

Asking everyone around if they are going to Lithuania. But half of it was staying in Suwalki. Lithuanian cars were usually full of things. But eventually a estonian camper took us to Kaunas. But still probably its the best gas station to get to Lithuania

Probably the best gas station to get a ride between warsaw and ostrow from my experience. We were trying to go to Lithuania but we accepted a ride to Bialystok which was maybe not the best idea because it can become pretty hard to get out of there. So if you are going to Baltics just stick to the main highway. Eventually you will get someone who is going there.

After roundabout trying to catch cars coming from Suwalki headed to north, great to get Polish going home but most Lithuanian cars are really full, at first declined local rides, but in all honesty, you should take the first car that takes you further up north, for a ride of 20kms or so you will get a car within 20 minutes, for a ride to Lithuania or further you will have to wait way longer

Towards LT, been here quite some times, always conflicting, this spot is ideal for long distance cars, but you have to get here in the first half of the day when those cars come by, in the evening or in the dark it really is long long wait, if you even get a car. The spot itself is great, huge roadside where you can stop anything, also behind top! there are few lorries parked for the nights, but most of the companies are at the most going to southern Lithuania. If you get here early you'll get a ride within 5-10 minutes, if you come here in the evening expect 60+ minutes of waiting

Towards Lithuania, first somewhat okay spot, even though as there are loads of good places for cars to stop along the way from Auce, noone will cuz about 95% of the cars are locals headed to any of the border villages as well as this road being generally little used, try to aim for Lithuanian passenger cars, wait times of 30-50 minutes here, anywhere before probably 60+ minutes

Busy service station. Was able to find a lift to Suwalki but should be very easy to find one to Lithuania.

It rained quite heavily, so I found shelter nearby Vynoteka. A lot of people going to Lithuania buy cheap alcohol in Poland's border, and I believe this is one of the last alcohol stores in the north.

A bus stop with enough space for cars to stop. Good spot if you want to get out of Augustów and go to Suwałki (which is eventually much better city to get a ride to Lithuania). Waited 25 minutes with sign Suwałki/Kaunas.

Small gas station. Going to Lithuania, the station is right after a curve so drivers dont see it that good. We were in pair, one hitchhiked on the entry to the station and the other at the exit. Sign "LT" - Lithuania. Got a ride past the border to the closest town.

Tried my luck here for 90min towards Lithuania. Although there are many cars passing and there is an unused bus stop to stop safely, no one took me. Seems like a good spot, and also quite a few Lithuanian cars. After 90min, I moved further to the other mentioned spots on this map, and waited 60min more to be picked up.

One of the better highway exits in Lithuania outside the big towns. Took a fairly short ride, would have waited for direct ride to kaunas hadnt it rained.

mostly local traffic. many lithuania cars but almost none stop. I declined 2 rides to marijampole in the hopes of getting a ride further but it was a mistake and i got stuck for 2 hours. its not a bad spot but i think i was just very unlucky. in the afternoon many lithuanians go back from shopping so in the end i got a ride to Kaunas.

Okay place since cars go slowly. Possible to get a ride to Lithuania.

Two guys with backpacks, signaling with a sign LT. Most of drivers were local, but we got a ride to northern Lithuania in less than hour.

When I arrived at this spot I felt very pessimistic - a very rare car coming through and mostly trucks stopping for sleep breaks. Once I approached a truck driver, he agreed to pick me up next morning after he had slept. The next morning I got the longest distance ride I had ever gotten by hitchhiking - took me all the way to Paņevežis (Lithuania).

Difficult with thumb up, nobody stopped until a man from Lithuania picked me up..

Most of the cars going to Bydgoszcz but you can find someone going east eventually. Nice spot to hang around in front of the gas station and talk to drivers, people are friendly. Got a ride to Warsaw with a person from Berlin going to Lithuania with their van.
