Border guards had no problem with me hitchhiking. I took a ride from the first car that stopped, which turned out to be just going only a few minutes into town. Maybe best to just walk/get a ride to the other end of Rezina and hitch from there? Note that if you choose to walk across town, you will be met with a very imposing tower of stairs :)

First car picked me up. I ended up deciding to stay in Orhei for the night, but you could also definitely use this spot for getting to Chisinau via Orhei, where there will be more traffic and folks will be nicer

A horrid spot, at least on a saturday at mid-day. Traffic was very low, and most of the cars that passed were Chişinau city-slickers that drove cars too fancy to have somebody else ride in, apparently. If you want to go to Chişinau from here, I would suggest going to Orhei first. When I thumbed in direction Orhei right up the road, the first car picked me up.

I was walking back from Trebujeni and thumbing, very low traffic here but cars have a good chance of stopping for you

I got dropped off at the exit and started walking on this road. Not many cars but feels like every one that passes is likely to pick you up.

Pretty easy to Orhei and Chisinau, harder if you’re going north. I was planning on going north but decided at the last minute to just take a ride to Orhei to check out the monasteries

Not a hitchhike but this is a note that this border CAN be crossed by foot (very easily, in fact), as of March 2026

An okay spot, seems like some locals use it too. A lot of local traffic here. Further up the road might be better? Can’t say for sure, this spot is still fine

This is still a really good spot, space to stop and catching all northbound traffic at slow speeds. A lot of people will look at you like you’re some kind of freak haha, especially if you look very foreign. But the man who picked me up was incredibly kind, gave me a tour of his neighborhood and took me to a nice spot on the river river before dropping me off. This is a cool place to hitchhike in

Me and Moldovan babushka Anna did the ol’ Double Trouble Bait-and-Switch method, where she stood by the side of road while I sat behind a bush, emerging only when a hapless driver stopped, thinking he was helping out an elderly woman in need, only for that elderly woman to be joined by a smelly, dirt-covered American who could speak than ten words of Russian. Anyhow, it’s a good spot.

Me and Moldovan babushka Anna, who was heading to Chişinau for a dentist appointment, waited for a ride here for quite some time, to no avail. Perhaps just unlucky, it is in theory a good spot, albeit with a lot of local traffic. We ended up getting a ride in a Marshrutka to a spot further up the highway

There is no perfect spot for cars to stop, in fact several drivers would have stopped but motioned that they had no room. At times with decent traffic, maybe stand before this roundabout at the last bust stop in Vulcaneşti. However, this spot catches traffic coming from different directions, which is what i needed because it was getting late and there weren’t many cars on the road. Got a ride from a Moldovan who lived most of his life in my home state of California. What are the chances! ask and the road shall provide

It is worth nothing that this spot is on a steep uphill gradient which would make it very awkward for trucks to stop. In general, cars are going pretty fast here as well. This spot could still work, but the sun was setting, I was getting a little desperate, so I decided to change spots

Low-traffic but you’re fairly likely to get someone to stop, all Moldovan traffic has to go this way. I was looking for a short ride in the direction of COMRAT, and I managed to get to Vulcaneşti which I was quite happy with. If you are trying to go in that direction I would recommend using thumb and no sign. If you are going to Chişinau, perhaps ask around at the gas station(s) before this spot, probably easier to get a long-distance ride

You can’t cross the border on foot but the guard was chill with me hitchhiking right before his post, even suggested I do so

Took me some time because I had a sign saying Comrat but eventually I got a ride all the way to the Romanian border at Giurgiulești.

Hitchhiked right after the Moldovan side of the border crossing which the guards didn’t have any issue with. I had a sign saying Comrat, eventually I was taken to Căușeni. I recommend using a sign saying Căușeni or just thumbing, as cars don’t really stop unless going all the way to your destination.

Stood with a sign saying Tiraspol in Cyrillic (Тирасполь), a guy took me to Bender and then I took the trolley to Tiraspol for 4 PMR rubles (less than 25 euro cents)

If you are dropped off in GALATI and wish to go to Moldova , this is probably your best spot. You can take bus 13 to get right by this roundabout. This is a low-traffic road, but that can work to you advantage as it is quite easy for cars to stop with holding up traffic. With sign MD I was picked up and driven over the border by a young Romanian couple who were going to Moldova for petrol, which seems to be a fairly common practice

Got dropped there by my last driver which wasn’t ideal but the shoulder was big enough for cars to stop. Got a ride in a Moldova registered Porsche all the way to Bucharest, probably gained a whole hour by the outrageous speeds he was going on the national road.

So, the Spot itself is okey. Our Problem was that we arrived close to sunset. Most Drivers where in Drucks with only one seat to offer. But we were two travelers. Still found somebody. Remember to download Romanian, Cause not everybody understand English. Got a ride on a minifridge in a Diesel truck to chisinau with a sign Saying "Moldova". Was an adventure. To my fellow females: I was traveling with a men. Idk if I can recommend this spot. It is in the middle of nowhere and the Druck Drivers who picked us up, was in my opinion not the safest men to be around by yourself. Be safe.

Big learning: there is a lidl right there. The pieces of cardboard that are between the bottles of water are great as a hitchhiking sign. They are big and stabile. About the stop: it is great, there is a spend bump right in Front of it, so the people have to slow down. For some reason they were really hyped to see two hitchhikers with a "Moldova" sign. So that was fun. We found a guy how to took us to a better spot to hitchhik to rep moldavia.

Hitchhiking to Chisinau, Moldova.
Lots of space for cars to stop. They see you from afar but are going pretty fast. Got a short ride here but they came back and too me to Chisinau. And of course have a sign to 'Chisinau'

Hitchhiking to Chisinau, Moldova.
Perfect spot to Moldova. Write 'Chisinau' to your sign and just wait here👍 I got a ride pretty close to the capital and the border crossing went easily: they just asked one question about declaration. I'm from Finland so I don't know if that has something to do with it. Actually one of my friends had a problem at the border and he recommended to book a hostel or have some proof that you're really staying in Moldova, so I did that just in case. Good luck to everyone.

Please write a sign to Tisita!! Would have gotten a ride much easier than with a sign to Moldova. You see every one that are going to Chisinau from here are passing Tisita.

A big station where all trucks stop when they're going to Slovakia, Hungary, Moldova, Romania and further. Once even the driver asked me first where I'm traveling when I arrived at the station, so it's really very easy. The best time is on Sunday evening because often the road to Slovakia is closed till 10pm and a lot of trucks are waiting for it to be open. There's a nice restaurant and you can exchange currency.

Great spot to Moldova. Many locals from all backgrounds travel together here in busses. Russians, Romanians, Moldovans and Ukrainiansm Don't bother using a sign, it's expected to talk to people who park there for several reasons. They are very willing to help you find a ride. Use Google translate if you don't speak the language. You will need a passport to enter Moldova and be prepared to wait at the border, but it is truly worth it. A friend and I waited for 90 minutes, most buses were full but we got great help. At the end a Moldovan tour bus took us with them through northern Moldova all the way to Chisinau, for free without any problems.

Amazing spot for diverse travels. We had a place to be - hence the longer time - but we got offered rides to nearby cities, as well as cities like Kyiv and eventually all the way to Moldova

From Piata Mihai Viteazau you take bus number 8. You go by bus till Someseni, this is after Aurel Vlaicu. There you can find a good ramp. There is enough space to make a contact with drivers, there is a trafic light and also the cars are very slowly. From here you can go to Dej, Baia Mare or Bistrita, Ucraina, Suceava, Moldova. Do not forget to tell that you will not pay the lift. NU AM BANI, NU PLATESC. Is very important to say that after Salut, Hello.

Direction Moldova-Transnistria.
This road has very low traffic but the occasional cars stop for you. You might need to get closer to the border village by village. Make sure the driver doesn't expect money before you get in the car.
