Honestly I've been lucky to find someone in 10mn for Monaco. It's a very tiny place with very few cars and if unlucky I'm sure you can wait hoursrating: 3/5, wait: 10 min 👍, ride: 43 km ↗

I'm backdating this story because I initially missed it when doing my trip write-up.This is the only service station servicing Monaco, for that, it seems quite promising! It's a bit of a quest to get to though, first, a bus will take you most of the way out of Beausoleil; after which you need to walk up a motorway service road and hop a fence. Not too good, not too bad. It'll do.
The sun was getting ready to set when we started hitching, our sign read “Italia” but the evening traffic wasn't looking promising. We weren't too bothered, however, because the views were fantastic, and it looked like a wonderful place to camp!
Right as we turned round to walk into the woods for the night, we heard a horn honking behind us! Five older Brits on a jolly outing to Italy! They gave us a very entertaining lift to Alassio, where we proceeded to find a place to spend the night.
If hitching from here, I'd strongly recommend not accepting anything that isn't to at least Sanremo. The Italian police don't like hitchhikers at the best of times, let alone those that get stuck on a border toll booth with no pedestrian access.

The spot is good but there are lots of people going to Nicea. It's really the best spot to get a ride to Italy or to the east because there aren't really any other spots that are closer to the border.Do not settle for a ride to Nicea or Monaco if you want to get to Italy because there arent any more stations on the highway later on until Italy.
We didn't see much succes on the gas station itself but we got a ride to Milan with a trucker from the parking. There are lots of trucks going far.
The service is very nice and you can power your phones and other devices in many places in the station. There is also a lot of space with tables and chairs on the outside to cook and eat.
If u dont manage to get a ride until the sunset, there is a good place to sleep behind the station by the revolving door in the bushes. It's hidden from the bigger road but seen from the smaller road on which there are almost no cars. To get there you have to get around an old fence. No need for a tent because there are almost no mosquitos. The station closes at 2 am and opens at 3am so when we asked they told us we can sleep on the couch or somewhere in the inside of a station but u would have to leave at 2am and wait an hour and u can come back at 3am.

Went to Monaco, but on the way the driver recommended me to go to the mountain overlooking Monaco first, so he let me out there, but would've been possible to go to Monaco ville also. Be early, as people who work in Monaco leave nice early, to avoid parking problems. I waited after a curve, where cars go slow and could see me easily, behind me was a bike lane and a bus stop where they could stop.rating: 5/5, wait: 6 min 🪧, ride: 13 km ↗

Quite a few cars heading to Nice and Monaco, should be easy enough to get a lift. Find a good spot on this road and have a sign.―Anonymous, July 2015

We hhiked with sign. First time we we wrote Monaco. The problem is, there is no gas station between Nice and Monaco, so we got stuck in there. You should at least set Menton as goal to get to the gas station on the highway.―Damanu, April 2015

I was here on my way to Italy by myself and it took me hours to find someone. Important is that you find someone who is going at least until the boarder, Monaco is not enough. Also the last gas station right after Monaco supposed to be not so well frequented. Anyway, lot of rich somewhat older people passing by here which made it a bit difficult for me.―Travelrebel, May 2013

I got a ride to Italy from this road in 10 minutes. I was with sign ITALY and got to Alessandria (driver went to Turin, I was going to Milan). I think any place on Av. de Sospel will work. I saw many cars with italian plates. Bus from Nice or Monaco costs just 1 euro.―Anonymous, February 2013
