I met some fellow travellers that proposed to me to get me to Casablanca. I wasn't even planning to go here but I agreed. Just start conversations if.

Cars very likely to stop. The problem is that there is not much traffic/movement, so be prepared to wait.

Locals are friendly :)
But it feels a little silly to hitchhike sometimes, because the bus to Essaouira is so very cheap from here... A matter of pennies.

I hitched from here to Sidi Kauki many times, usually waiting 10-20 minutes. People have all been very very nice.

Not a lot of traffic. But a lot of nice people. First part we were in a trunk of pick-up than we changed to car who spoke English. (Cars have to stop sometimes in the valley because the road is being reconstructed because of the earthquake 2023), and this guy then took us to hotel of his friend, so much better price

Cars, not that fast going uphill and just right amount of traffic. Perfect spot for going Atlas. We got picked up by young group who stopped for us to take pictures twice at the view spots.

We were lucky to stop a car going so far. There is a lot of traffic and taxis. And it is probably better to take one to the end of the city (don't spend more than 50 dirhams, fair price might be 20)

Local with porsche drove us to city center, However, I don't reccomend to go there, because then only taxi or other people who wants money stop.

Lots of place for a car to pull up. Judging from my previous experience and knowledge now my short wait was just luck. Abdul, a desert camp owner from Merzouga. He was registered to take tourists. We still got pulled over and asked for registrations three times adding an hour to our drive. Managed to just get my lift before sun set and Abdul let me stay at his desert camp. Cars here are heading towards Merzouga, but the nearby police checkpoint must have scared potential lifts off. My previous truck driver stopped for me again out of sight from the gendarmes. As far as I understand now it is illegal for locals to transport tourists unless they are a registered taxi or tour guide, at least in this region. I was uncomfortable when my driver started taking backroads and hiding me in his cab as we passed through towns. I now know he was looking out for himself and I to get me where I needed to go, but don’t feel the need to continue a lift if you’re uncomfortable. Cheers for the lift though mate

A needlessly long walk out of town but I coincided with the school rush so kept on walking until I was out of their way. Best to get here around 11am when tourists are driving through, locals are very unlikely to stop for foreigners in the desert

Missed the morning tourist rush. Was expecting to catch a grand taxi to town but got lucky and hailed a caravan as I walked. Wasn’t a prime spot as I kept moving but there are decent places for a car to stop on this road

I was wary of the speed of traffic further up the road. Not a many cars here but they’re still heading Tangier way. A kid came by and wagged his finger to help me hail a car, it worked. Thanks mate

this spot is from hitchwiki. we wanted to go towards algeciras/morocco, there was very little traffic and kind of hostile drivers. also 43 degrees in the shadow. gave up and ended up taking the train, whicj was around 30€. I think it should be possible to hitchhike from here, but certainly not easy. consider other options maybe. good luck!

A good spot to pull over. We hitchhiked here twice (in March 2024 and February 2023), and in both instances, we waited for about 45 minutes. The waiting time heavily depends on the time of day. It's one of the places in the desert region of Morocco where we waited the longest for a ride. Nevertheless, we had some of the most memorable hitchhiking experiences here in Morocco (with a film producer heading to a Netflix film set in the middle of nowhere and with a super lovely Moroccan couple heading towards Zagora very late in the evening).

Not surprisingly, it's super easy to pull over. That's where we caught one of the coolest rides we ever had in Morocco. (March 2024)

Got a ride, from Marc and Eve, that initially should have just taken me to Salamanca but ended up taking me all the way to Seville on my way to Morocco. Good spot honestly.

For Trucks to Morocco.
If you check google maps, you'll see this is just in front of a roundabout where trucks are slow, some are stopping there for a while. The ones that are driving though go strait on the ferry (based on one experience).

Low traffic due to road end in Mhamid. After a struggling hike i got a ride directly to the desert. Dont waste your time. Better take a bus from Zagora, Morocco is cheap!!!

Huge petrol station. You can easily catch a truck going to Spain, Portugal, even to Morocco. Many people use this highway to get to Lyon, Marseille and Nice.

I arrived at 18.30 and it was almost dark on that time. I waited one hour and some guys from Morocco pick me up to Stockholm. You can walk around 10 minutes to the bigger road. It's not a big airport and that might be a problem to catch a car.

Coming from Morocco, you can feel it instantly, it's another pair of shoes! We waited here for an hour to go north to Seville, but fortunately a guy stopped and suggested another spot. This spot is not good at all, lot of traffic, but no eye-contact, no one really cares about hitchhikers here, plus we totally missed the place.

Gas station, not so much traffic through this road, but got a lift with some tourists and their private guide tour. Nevertheless you can meet some locals and get shown around and hosted just by chance. Wonderful Morocco :)

The Border at Mauritania side close at 18:00 so please try to arrive there earlier. I got there at 17:00 and there is no place to sleep on the Mauritania side only in the Morocco side (at least when i was there Summer 2013)

Aire la Capellen, direction East and South. Great spot for catching long distance rides south (France, Spain, Italy, Switzerland, even Morocco).

Haven't tried the place yet, but it seems to be an excellent spot:
Ferries from Morocco and elsewhere spit out a vast number of cars that head further north. This is the one spot inside the city where there is no local traffic and plenty of space and time to stop.

The place to stop when you come back from Morocco.
Me and a friend waited for a car going to France from here at the end of the summer. Lots of cars, lots of full cars full of Moroccan families but after 6 hours, we got our car to Baiona (Bayonne) !
Pretty sure you can get it faster, especially if you're alone hitchin' !
If it doesn't work at all, there is a bus going to San Sebastian for 50 euros, leaving around 5 p.m everyday if i remember well. (i'm not sure of the hour, but sure of the price, which is the 2010 price)

Small parking bay for max. three trucks. Most of the time at least one truck stays here, waiting for the starting signal. Good spot for starting the search for a ferry lift to Morocco.
