Quite a bit of traffic but very short distance. I gave up and accepted a ride to Faro airport just to leave.

completely dead, you could get stuck here for hours, definitely ask the few people that do stop

quite a bit of traffic, mostly local though. I got a short ride from here to a few towns over but nothing crazy

Good spot, cars can pull over on the parking strip, got a ride back to Leiria

Was trying to get back to Leiria after a day trip to Nazaré, had to wait for a bit but got picked up after 15 minutes by a guy heading to Marinha Grande. Lots of space for cars to pull over

Lot of traffic, yet it took almost 2 hours to find someone

managed to get picked up by a camper really quickly by just standing at the exit with a sign saying "A2". When trying to enter through the gate in the back a lady who worked there who was just leaving was really hostile towards me and threatened me with the cameras and that i am not allowed to go in. Did it anyway after she left, because the gate still opens when you press the button so i dont think its a serious offence but be careful when you enter and ask at the counter if they are fine with you hitchhiking there i guess.

spot is decent but mostly cars with elderly people and people who looked at me funny. Got picked up by a german guy who also let me sleep at his place so i guess you can get lucky

man, alone, 26 years, waited for a long time, but no one went up north. Little cars moved from the left lanes (direction Porto) to this gas station. Eventually opted for a bus from the Oriente bus station (20 min. from the gas station/30 min. walk)

first waited near the door of the station thumbing with a sign for Lisboa/Albufeira, then by the road entrance to the station, when i stood on the exit (where the main road meets the station) i got a ride within a couple of minutes from someone in the station.

To go towards Madrid/Andalusia: You reach this spot by the public „metrobus“ 430A from Valencia. Its not the red city busses but the yellow metrobus. It starts from the main bus station but dont try to catch it there because noone knows where it departs. We caught it one spot down from there and it came by the time stated on google maps. Its like 3€. The spot itself is not great but okay. There are people going to Valencia or other local towns (many), some to Madrid and quite a few to Andalusia/Sevilla/Portugal. Many cars are full. We arrived at 20:00 and tried for 2 hours and got close to a lift to madrid multiple times. We went to sleep in a field nearby which was perfect. Next day it took us another 2 hours to go to another service station 1 1/2 hours towards spain. I don't know if we just got unlucky but I think its just spain. Many people are shocked when you ask them for a lift.

Me, my LOVE and our dog were here for quite a long time and were prepared to sleep in the Forrest for the night. However at the most unexpected time a car stopped and took us to La Junquera even though we had a sign with Perpignan. But since on the way and our destination is Portugal we took it! Lucky us since we are two with backpacks and a dog……:)

Got a ride into Portugal after not too long. Mabye the people who pass through here won’t be going super far into Portugal, but it will get you into the country.

Long waiting time (like everywhere on our route trough portugal) but definitly possible to get the ride from here to Lisbon. More people showed us that they go north - direction Porto. We tried different places on N234 from Mealhada but this spot after the rondo and before pay-gates was so far the best.

we got a ride here from Tarifa, and was a great sunset place to find a ride to sevilla (we chose a gas station 1h south of sevilla, to hitch onwards to Portugal). possible both to thumb and to wait for cars to stop for gas.
