Not even 2 minutes and a truck driver picked me up. Brought me all the way to Turkey. Roads are shit and it takes forever.

I took the tram from the city centre and walked 100m to the roundabout. Enough space to stop and cars go slow. It took less than 5 minutes (with sign Ruse and Türkiye) to catch a ride. A very nice and old man took me to right to the border. He drove like crazy and did not want any money.

If you are dropped off in GALATI and wish to go to Moldova , this is probably your best spot. You can take bus 13 to get right by this roundabout. This is a low-traffic road, but that can work to you advantage as it is quite easy for cars to stop with holding up traffic. With sign MD I was picked up and driven over the border by a young Romanian couple who were going to Moldova for petrol, which seems to be a fairly common practice

Better than just after the roundabout in my opinion, cars are still going very slow, but now vehicles in the left lane have the chance to merge to pick you up. Got a ride in 10 minutes to GALATI

I tried GALATI from here, first of all at the time I was thumbing there was mostly local or Braila bound traffic it seemed, but more importantly it is awkward for cars to stop here because there is a decent amount of traffic, especially for cars in the left lane. I abandoned this spot after an hour and found what I believe to be a better one just down the road

As of now I think this is the best spot for east/northeast in Bucharest. It was recommended to me by a friend who hitchhikes very often from Bucharest to Tulcea and vice versa. This catches all traffic heading in this direction, and while there is technically no lane for cars to stop, the right lane is basically unused and so is a fairly practical stopping place. With single SLOBOZIA i got lucky and landed a direct ride to Tulcea, my final destination.

This is either a really good spot or a terrible one, depending on your luck. A truck dropped me here, and I found a Turkish truck, which got me further almost immediately, but if I went around all the trucks and nobody would take me, I would have been screwed.

I just switched to a different truck while mine was having a break. Do I think this is a good spot? Not really, but I was lucky enough to get a good ride from here, and you might as well.

Not a bad spot, I asked around and found a guy going to Sibiu. It was kinda funny because he spoke no languages I speak, and it was truly a spiritual experience, but he was nice and got me to a place where I changed cars.

I thought this would be a good spot, but, to be honest, it wasn't. I spent nearly two hours here to get from here to Pitesti. I tried traditional hitchhiking and asking around at nearby McDonald's, but neither worked very well. You might be luckier than I; it was morning.

I found a guy willing to take me to the western part of the city almost immediately, from where I hitchhiked further.

This is likely a good spot, during the working week, when the trucks are on the road, but during the weekend, it is mid. The traffic was relatively infrequent, and people told me they weren't going to Constanta; I'm not sure if I should believe them. I unpacked my lunch here and ate it in the shade, so it did not bother me that much. After that, a car picked me up, got me to Vama Veche, and helped me find a summer job, so that was nice.

I got lucky here and convinced a guy to bring me near an exit for Constanta. I didn't spend much time here, but I think the traffic was decent.

This was a really bad place, and I would advise you to avoid it, if possible. After more than an hour and a half, I walked to a gas station, showed as a destination, and there I found a guy willing to take me to the exit towards Constanta. If you are stranded around here, I would advise walking rather than just waiting here. The traffic was low, and the heat was unbearable.

This was my solution to my screw up, and it kinda worked, but it was not great. Although the spot is great, especially if you need to reach Bucharest, getting to the east of the capital was no fun, but this place was not a bad start.

If you want to go south, this is likely not a bad spot. If you need to go east, you are screwed, just as I was. My solution was to go a bit south, cross the road, and try to head back north. I worked, but I didn't have any fun doing it.

I just switched cars here. Quite a lot of tourists are going to the black sea. This is not a large gas station, but you can find a car easily. Just be aware to check if they are going in your direction, or you might end up like me. Getting around Bucharest isn't easy if you want to reach the coast.

Two other cars stopped that could have taken me part way, after about an hour got a ride all the way to the border

With a sign to lublyana went to maribor. Possibility for Budapest and Romania randomly.

This spot it was 😍 amazing. I found a car DIRECTLY to Romania.

I was in no rush, so take my waiting time with a grain of salt. This is a good place. A lot of trucks are going through this place, most of them heading toward Budapest, but after asking for a while, I got a ride directly to Romania.

Went here because the roundabout was being used by local hitchhikers. Took quite a while for some reason but a polish guy on a roadtrip through Romania picked me up for Brașov/Brassó

Waited there half hour, pointless. Cars from Bucarest or the periphery. Even going to Ploiesti you won't find a lot of cars going there. Better to take the bus to the airport!! Way easier especially for Ploiesti, can bé lucky for Brašov top. Actually someone was going there but asked for money like often in Romania.

No one wanted to give me a ride at the truck stop, so I got frustrated and was going to walk across the border to Romania. But as I was walking past a gas station, I saw a car and asked if he can take me across the border. It turned out that he was going to Bucharest.

Busy Petrol station, but no one was going towards Romania. Many people to Budapest though. We ended up going to the other side of the roundabout which seems to be very good if you want to go east

We stood in front of the bus station, there is enough space to stop and the cars don't go super fast. Took us 15 minutes to get a ride to the next town on our way to romania

We arrived at 20:00 and didnt get a ride that day. Next day we also didnt get away, we were trying to get to northern romania. Good Infrastructure but no lifts. Might be good for other directions

Don't accept rides to Csengele if you want to go to Serbia, you may eventually get lucky and get out of this godforsaken place but you'll lose a lot of time trying, mostly tourists with packed cars or truck drivers heading towards Romania stop there

Got ride straight to Romania after standing there with i sign saying HU/ROM. It wasn't exactly busy here tho, we were lucky.

Managed to hitch a ride straight to Romania. Plenty of traffic towards Hungary, Romania and Serbia, especially on fridays and saturdays. Great spot certainly worth the walk from the nearest Bratislava bus stop ("Čunovské jazerá").

restaurant visited by many travellers coming from and going to Romania, it's open 24/7, so always people there to ask, food is great too :)

Great spot if you're travelling to Romania, not so great for Serbia. There's a city bus stop 10 minutes walk west the station from where you can get to Szeged and then the next OMV station by bus, which is 3km from the border. A driver told us you can only cross the border on foot on the crossing Horgos 2, but not on the highway one, so be aware of that.

We reached late at night and decided to wait for the morning to continue hitchhiking. The restaurant is cheap, the food is good and it's open 24h. There's also a 24h service station with cozy sofas to sleep in and power sockets. Buy water at the service station rather than the restaurant, it's 5 times cheaper for the same amount. In the morning a truck driver gave us a lift to Lugoj in Romania, although we could have gone further to Sibiu. There are many Romanians passing by, go talk to the people rather than showing your sign. If you're heading to Serbia ask for Szeged, sometimes that's as far as they can take you before the border.

Still possible to walk bridge from Romania to Bulgaria as of december '23, but I hitched a lift to Ruse here.

Big amount of cars to Romania. You can very easily aim Szeged in one I tried at the gas station onAustrian side and then restaurant on Hungarian side. Side note: slept near the gas station and got woken up at 4am by Austrian military

Gas station with traffic. Mode of it goes to Romania but you have to be lucky and keep asking. I asked to the Serbian border and they ended taking me to Sofia (BG). You won’t have a better spot anyways
