this spot is from hitchwiki. we wanted to go towards algeciras/morocco, there was very little traffic and kind of hostile drivers. also 43 degrees in the shadow. gave up and ended up taking the train, whicj was around 30€. I think it should be possible to hitchhike from here, but certainly not easy. consider other options maybe. good luck!rating: 1/5, wait: 300 min 💬

not so many cars leaving here to Zaragoza. We spent night here because only one girl stopped and was scared to take 2 guys. Next day we started hitchhiking from 7:30 and finally at 12:15 one man from Africa who lives in Spain took us to Zaragoza. 1 km from here is the roundabout that goes to zaragoza but police told us if they saw us again we will pay. But one police woman said 20 minutes ago that we can autostop there.rating: 2/5, wait: 500 min, ride: 223 km ↗

Maybe the worst gas station in Spain, or maybe it is because people from Spain do not understand hitchhiking.. First day we stood there for like two hours, it was evening. And police officers told to us to get out of there, because hitchiking on autovias is ilegal. So we get out and build up a tent on a field next to highway, pretty nice spot for camping. The second day we decide to hitchhike on the roundbout with a sign to Madrid, we stood there for maybe six hours? After that time some guy took us to a gas station in that direction, maybe 20 kilometers. We found out that, police officers were waiting for us on the previous spot, so be carefull. P. S. Do not believe people from Spain, if they told you they are going to drop you off on a busy gas station..rating: 1/5, wait: 4000 min 🪧, ride: 16 km ↖

I was sat sipping a coffee after my first menu du jour since leaving Spain, glancing at maps and figuring out how best to get to Toulouse that day, where I intended to stay with a friend. Annoyingly for me, it seemed the best spot to leave Ax was the place I was dropped off at in the first place. Fantastic. The cool Andorran air was well gone at this point, especially since lunch had carried me into the hottest part of the day, so the walk to the spot felt like a real slog.
Upon arrival, a second thing hit me, this spot is great…for the other direction! Going north you have a big open car park with more than enough space to pull over. On the south side…a grassy ditch. Oh well, we roll with it!
This is a spot where a sign would be beneficial, much to my lack of forward planning. I wanted to make the most of the steady stream of traffic leaving Andorra, but the problem is they're headed all over the country! (a quick glance at the number plates will show you the true appeal of cheap cigarettes and alcohol.)
Eventually, I was picked up by a very nice man in a very nice car with air conditioning that felt like heaven. He wasn't going straight to Toulouse, but to Béziers instead, meaning he would turn off of the motorway before any service stations came up. Much to my chagrin, I agreed to be dropped off at the Peage just past Pamiers. He was kind enough to give me a marker and some cardboard, though, to make leaving Pamiers just that little bit easier; for which I am incredibly grateful!

It's surprising how the wait times lower so dramatically as soon as you cross the border. As per usual, Spain can prove a battle when hitching, but France feels ever so relaxed in comparison. After getting dropped in l'Hospitalet, I noted it was nearly lunchtime, and I hadn't had a French plat du jour in what feels like forever, so I set my sights on Ax Les Thermes.
The spot I chose was the road entering a roundabout next to the train station. There is adequate room for a car to pull over thanks to a bus stop, all in all making for a nice place to wait!
I had barely put my bag down at the spot when a van pulled over with a young man behind the wheel, and a lot of alcohol in the centre seat. As it turns out, he was related to a shop owner from my tiny home village! It's a small world after all.
He was going further than Ax, but my heart was set on lunch, so I bid him goodbye at the turn-off, and walked my way into town.

After an all too brief visit to Barcelona, I decided to begin my journey north, back towards my home. The original plan was to follow the coast, but being right in the middle of one of Spain's worst heatwaves in years, I decided north to Andorra would be a wiser (and prettier) option. I took the train with a Greek girl I met to Montserrat, where she promised a cable car, a very scenic train, and a monastery, how could I say no! After arriving, she told me she was staying that night in the monastery, and I decided to accompany her to help translate since she didn't speak any Spanish. This lead to a fantastic lunch with the monks and priests amongst the Dia De San Joan celebrations!Upon leaving, the bridge seemed like the most logical place to try to stop traffic. However, after an hour of shouted remarks from the patrons of the café across the road, and plenty of middle fingers from passing cars, my patience was starting to ware thin… After a quick beer to recharge, a refill of my water bottle, and another half hour wait, I got a lift from a very loud Spanish man up the motorway a little ways. Despite my pleas to drop me at a service station, he insisted in dropping me in his terrible hometown, Sallent…
If you choose to hitch from here, I'd still say the bridge is the best option going, and the train to the monastery is probably one of the most scenic options for getting out of Barcelona. However for your own sanity, definitely do not leave the motorway, get yourself dropped at a service station!

Very big station. For cars and trucks. A lot of trucks crossing to spain, a lot to la junquera. If you want to take a bus from there is not very easy, not very well conected. A lot of cars going to Moroco, but very full, not a lot of space. Very very good place.I took a ride to la Jonquera at 1 minute from arriving. Now in the truck i am thinking maybe a should have wait a little bit more and get it until barcelona. Will see in junquera. Gooodluck
