Good spot for stopping but most people just stop and if they stop they are usually going to small store thats located on this spot but still it's probably the best here for going east

Great towards Sierre. I could go all the way to it but I wanted to some groceries first since only one shop in Zinal is closed between 12am and 2pm

haven't seen a single police officer. i stood right next to money exchange building, was stopping 2 lanes at once with both thumbs. SIGN would help a ton! also going to portugal btw :)

5 am, a lot of ppl go to switzerland. i was too lazy to talk and just stood at the exit thumbing.

Good to go either north or south towards Switzerland. Had a sign for Freiburg/France. Was a bit early, a bit later in the day I'm sure it gets quite busy.

Great spot for switzerland. Cars can stop and even make a U-turn if needed to take you.

Held a sign for Basel/Switzerland, waited 35 Minutes for a Ride to Basel, bc we where 2 persones it took a while Longer, while waiting 2 Cars offered a ride to Basel but only with enough space for 1 of Us. So Great Spot to hitch southwards.

First car I asked took me to St Gallen. Lots of swiss cars. No petrol stations after this point on the 96. If going to Switzerland get a direct lift there or to the Austrian border rest area.

We had two signs one for Basel and other one for France, we wanted to travel to Bordeaux. I think it's a great spot to got to Switzerland. Two males.

It’s a quite good spot. I waited on the on-ramp of the highway. Many cars coming, enough space to stop. In the first 10 minutes 3 or 4 cars stopped, but they didn’t went my direction. I wanted to go to Geneva/switzerland. In the end I got offered a ride to Mulhouse or be dropped off at a rest area towards Geneva. I took the ride to Mulhouse and the guy even drove me to Basel (bale) to the train station. I even met someone else hitchhiking there at the same time, so cool! 1 male alone

Before a level crossing there is space to pull over on the cerb and a slow traffic. Had a schweiz sign and got a ride to Switzerland in 20 mins. English speaking driver.

always tricky to hitchhike on a highway, but this spot turned out to be super useful and successful, coming from Strasbourg and wanting to go south to Switzerland. cars have room to stop (only) on the left hand side, and you can get a ride to any gas station or parking/rest place further on the highway. i got there by being droped on the previous highway exit, and walking along the fields, coming up to the highway right at the beginning of the exit lane.

I stood on a pedestrian walk/curb thing and got a nice look at every single car passing by into Switzerland. In my eyes the perfect spot as everybody has enough time to decide and to read your sign. Initially I wanted to get to Mulhouse from the other side, but there was no traffic so I switched for a ride towards Switzerland.

Very easy to get a lift to lausanne, after you are on the highway get off on La Cote rest stop if you need to go far into switzerland

I have tried this spot few times to go to Switzerland. Every time i waited 60 min holding a sign "Génève - péage de Beynost". After 60min, i decided to hitchhike only with a thumb. Within 10minutes, 2 cars stopped. I asked them to drive me to "Beynost": it's 6min ride from this spot and from there you can reach the toll by foot. The 2nd car dropped me there. Also, they change the layout of the road there and there isn't much space for cars to stop. But it's still okay

I had a sign saying "Basel". I wanted to go to the Pratteln service station to stay on the swiss A2 highway. Got picked up by a guy driving to Brugg. He said he was going through Basel, so I took the ride, but actually he went through Lörach. Be aware that there are two entries into Switzerland! Make sure the guy is going the way you want.

couldn't agree more with the review below. this really sucked towards switzerland, most ppl were going east to the french alps. ended up taking a lift to the tolls 5km further and had much better luck there. it is however a useful stop to ask for a big piece of cardboard to make a sign for the toll, the bigger the better - staff kindly helped out.

traffic mostly going to switzerland via basel, however i can't think of another option for france. can be a bit of a wait to get someone who goes at least to belfort and can drop you on the porte d'alsace. it's worth the wait. male, early 30s, alone
