Picked up by a guy who works as a bus driver in Lausanne, argued with his mom on the phone about where the best place to me off was, eventually settled on the airport, where it was pretty easy to take a bus to the border. Gave me 20 Swiss francs as a gift, which is equivalent to 1 billion US dollars

Not a super sexy spot, would be a little awkward for cats to stop, but it works. A woman that saw me while waiting at the light pulled over before this spot and walked over to tell me that she could give me a ride

Hard to judge a rest station by how it is at 9PM at night… the gas station lady was nice and gave me a shitton of bread before closing up. Two guys stopped for cigarettes at the mini market, which was already closed, but that gave me just the chance I needed… an unmemorable ride but a ride indeed

Harder than one would think to get to Bern. A lot of people going in that direction but not all the way (e.g. Solothurn, Olten). Eventually took a ride with a cool guy going to Solothurn who bought me Kebab before dropping me off at a rest station pretty close to Bern

Picked up in short order by a lesbian couple going to Luzern. We had a great time together, we stopped for an hour so they could show me the city, got dinner, and then they drove me up to a rest stop so that I could continue to bern

A local picked me up because he had passed me from the other side before and saw how long I had been waiting. He said no one had picked me up because Lugano is “fascist”, a sentiment which I found myself in agreement with. He wasn’t going far but took me all the way to the Bellinzona rest station to help me on my way

Stole a Red Bull from the minimarket, waited a while, got saved after God sent an Albanian to drive me to Lugano and buy me beer+kebab

A lot of tourists here who don’t owe you a damn thing because they own Porsches and you don’t. A cool local eventually took me further than he was going to get me on an A2 rest station

I have no idea where people on this roundabout are going, but it’s probably not where you want. A young couple came all the way back after passing me to take me to Brunnen and closer to moterway

Guy stopped in the middle of the road, blocked all cars, and told me how proud he was to be Swiss, as well he should be

Direction Lausanne. The spot is a bit sketchy since cars are moving fast with little space to pull over. Best to stand in the black triangle in front of the turn and hop cars pull up on-to it.

Not that busy of a rest stop, but still the best option. Good spot to chill before continuing the journey: cheap supermarket and nice lake with seats.

Most cars going Fribourg direction, found it very diffucult to get a ride further south-east than Vevey, but might have been unlucky.

Can work. Parking space for Denner Store can be used by stopping cars. But not the best entrance

Very easy to get a lift to lausanne, after you are on the highway get off on La Cote rest stop if you need to go far into switzerland

I have tried this spot few times to go to Switzerland. Every time i waited 60 min holding a sign "Génève - péage de Beynost". After 60min, i decided to hitchhike only with a thumb. Within 10minutes, 2 cars stopped. I asked them to drive me to "Beynost": it's 6min ride from this spot and from there you can reach the toll by foot. The 2nd car dropped me there. Also, they change the layout of the road there and there isn't much space for cars to stop. But it's still okay

I had a sign saying "Basel". I wanted to go to the Pratteln service station to stay on the swiss A2 highway. Got picked up by a guy driving to Brugg. He said he was going through Basel, so I took the ride, but actually he went through Lörach. Be aware that there are two entries into Switzerland! Make sure the guy is going the way you want.

couldn't agree more with the review below. this really sucked towards switzerland, most ppl were going east to the french alps. ended up taking a lift to the tolls 5km further and had much better luck there. it is however a useful stop to ask for a big piece of cardboard to make a sign for the toll, the bigger the better - staff kindly helped out.

traffic mostly going to switzerland via basel, however i can't think of another option for france. can be a bit of a wait to get someone who goes at least to belfort and can drop you on the porte d'alsace. it's worth the wait. male, early 30s, alone

You'll get picked up towards Porrentruy in a matter of seconds, if you wait a few cars it's easy to get to get to Delémont as well. As everywhere in the region, a lot of traffic in the morning from French people working in Switzerland.

Great Spot to hitch a ride towards munich, Switzerland or Innsbruck. I managed to get a ride quite deep into Italy :)

Not sure how to get here, another driver got me here. Got a ride to Verona offered in less then 10 minutes. Wanted to go to Switzerland so I only took it to Autogrill Secchia Est near Modena, which had a little bit more traffic.

Got a ride instantly, straight to Renens. A lot of people live in france (its cheaper) and go to switzerland for work, so in the morning theres a lot of traffic, some to geneve and some to lausanne, maybe even further.

Good spot in summer. Don't know why was full pf switzerland cars. A german girl drop me at basel

Good amount of traffic, and cars are going slow and will read your sign. Lyon definitely is easier, I was trying to go to Switzerland but with a sign to Geneva I got a ride in about 20 minutes. And super lucky they were actually going to lausanne which is where I also wanted to go.

The pot is perfect, i was aiming italy so it takes long searching for italian cars, but if you want to go in france is super easy. Is possible also for germany and spain or switzerland and netherlans(in summer of course). There is a MC, the station is open 24, i slept there because was raining. There are 2 parking spot.

Worst place you can find for hitchhiking. We waited here for more than a day in the summer. Every car is rather full of families returning from vacation or refugees with car from switzerland. We had a cardboard saying Hrvatska, then we switched to Croatia, then we just asked people, but nobody wanted to take us or they had full car. After day on this gas station it seems like spawn for refugees with expensive cars. Stay in Belgrad instead, it's a nice city

The perfect spot if you are going to Switzerland. Lots of Swiss cars. A guy approached me in the bathroom after seeing my sign. He took me straight to my destination (Zürich). I didn't even have to wait. Strongly recommend this spot for Southbound travel.

I tried asking around at the gas station but all the cars were full or we're going towards Salamanca. There are a lot of truck drivers and foreigners (France, UK, Portugal, Germany, Netherlands, Switzerland...) at the gas station, but many are families. After I decided moving to the entrance of the highway, a Spanish guy exited from the highway, and promised me to take me to Valladolid (my sign). Turns out he was going further and I ended up in Burgos.

great alternative to hitching from the border. we were a while standing on the on slip directly, but eventually we moved onto the road a little bit and one of the first french cars to pass stopped for us. theres good visibility and cars are already slowing down about to turn. at mid day on a weekday there was a decent amount of traffic, a lot of people in mulhouse commute to switzerland for work so you could catch a lot of french drivers going home after work around 5 or 6 potentially.
