was trying to find a ride over san bernandino, but ended up taking a ride to luzern

had the nicest women pick me up, she let me sleep at her place because she was worried and drove me to germany the next day!! solo female backpacker

good spot to ask around at the gas station. you could also signal people from the road but they go a bit fast. got a ride to st gallen

kinda a funky spot but there was enough room to safely pull over but not too much traffic. hard to find a ride east. i got picked up but there was a miscommunication and he ended up taking me south

it wasn’t the easiest to find a ride that went past zurich but i got one! but lots of very kind helpful people going other directions tho!

i waited before the gas entrance so people had a lot of time to see me and could pull into the gas station, not sure if waiting by the roundabout is better tho. got a ride pretty quickly towards zurich

i got lucky here but doesn’t seem like a bad spot at all especially if you wait before the light. i was trying to head west to olten and i had tolls off on maps for routing so it showed me this route, when in fact no one heads west from the airport from here. this kind man pulled over to tell me that but he happened to be going that direction, so he ended up taking me to baden train station and bought me a train ticket and a beer :))

A mom and her son picked me up, it’s a good spot for people see you and loop around if needed, as they had. I was heading to Lausanne which is the road people would take if they were as well! I waited 16 minutes :) Goodluck fellow travellers!

not a great spot, but reasonable, not many cars stopping - guy gave us a lift towards sargans and then bought us even a ticket to Sevelen (cause we were trying to get to Vaduz)

not a great spot because of the border on the side and many busses stopping on the bus station.

not so many cars passing through in the morningh rush, but even with so low car flow 2 cars stopped but the first one didnt go to the center of zurich we would have needed to walk 20km so we passed and after few minutes another guy stopped and gave us a ride to hauptbahnhof

nice spot, after only 18 minutes in the evening one car stopped even bought us food and gave us a ride towards zurich

Better stand here if you're going towards La-Chaux-de-Fonds so you're more visible than from the top. Cars can easily stop at the beginning of a forest road.

I mean 5 stars if you're going towards Zürich: a lane to stop, traffic light, visible. I was going towards Neuchâtel and it's more difficult: 90% of cars go towards Zürich, and the rest to Fribourg. Neuchâtel is a niche destination. Moreover the lane is on the left so you can't stand on the sidewalk. Right lane is to Zürich. Best strategy: ask NE cars at red light.

First person i asked took me to switzerland, swiss car

Searched for a ride to lindau/Switzerland but no one took us, we tried for an hour. We moved to the spot a bit further, close to the bus station, then it worked out.

On the begining of the parking next to a street. Thanks to this and bicycle lane on road there is small place for stopping here even if parking spots itself are occupied. Direction Cannobio/Switzerland

Great spot to get out of chamonix in the direction of Switzerland. I had a sign that said “Suisse,” and got a ride very quick all the way to Basel. Could have gone even further to Strasbourg.

Was here at night with Bern sign. As always in Switzerland, few cars at night. Got to Lausanne eventually.

At night almost no traffic towards Bern. Within 1 hour, 5 cars enterred the highway. Luckily the 6th one picked me up. I think the spot itself is good, but at night nobody just goes this way. Was standing with sign at the roundabout triangle to catch cars from all roads that could go my way. Well lit as always in Switzerland

Excellent spot (tyre chaining area) AFTER the roundabout towards Switzerland. No light at night. 5 minutes with a smartphone-lit Swiss flag and i got a car to Lausanne. The Swiss shops Denner sell big swiss-flag-shopping-bags, that's genius, used it to carry things and as a destination sign on my shoulder. It's bright red and highly visible in the distance.

Good spot, a lot of traffic even at night. Definitely all cars towards Pontarlier and Switzerland go through here. However not so much space so it's not easy to stop. Get a Swiss flag, it's bright red and will make you visible and friendly to Swiss people (obviously only if you're going there). Better than a cardboard sign especially at night (no lights! Lighting up the flag with a smartphone was a good idea) Stand below the signs 'Lausanne', not below the electronic board (turning road, you won't be seen and high speed, very dangerous). Fun anecdote: when someone picked me up, we got circled by 2 police cars. Someone had been calling the police signaling "someone standing on the road"! Lol! I hope they’re just as effective when a burglary is reported to them. Nevertheless the policemen were nice and we did'nt get into trouble.

As the other review says. I tried to go west (Switzerland), but it didn’t work at all. Most of the cars are going to Munich or further south to Austria. I gave up eventually and got picked up quickly after I changed my sign to Munich

perfect place for zurich and all switzerland a lot of ZH or just CH plates here fully recommend it : place yourself at the end of the gas station before the two road (like next to the sign that say bye in german ahaha) good luck the place is great, full of traffics, toilet, food and all yeahhh🫶🏻🫶🏻

One of the best spots in Switzerland. A Large gas station, where people rest. Direct route to Italy. If you get tired, you can chill inside the gas station.

Three girls with "Brig" sign got picked up until Visp (Visp is perfect if you want to continue to Italy trough the Simplon pass). Friday is the best time to hitchhike here, because of italian (and other) people working in Switzerland going home for the weekend.

Horrible spot with basically no cars. I got really lucky someone was going towards Switzerland where I was going near Liechtenstein (the second car). Would not recommend this spot though.

Great for Destinations in Switzerland/ North. Waited for 15min and a rich guy took us to Zug. Which is very close to our Destination Zurich

Its actually a good spot if you want to travel north. There is a free toilet. Lots of german and swiss cars. We were a bit unlucky and waited for 2h, a lot of full cars. But then we got a ride behind the border of switzerland.

In the afternoons you can easily catch a ride from Switzerland to the villages on the French side with cross border commuters, but the other direction is difficult. And the other way around in the mornings.

Good spot for hitch towards Switzerland. Many swizz cars pass by.

Would be 5 stars if not for the police risk. Swiss police told me I had to cross into France or leave the highway area in Switzerland.

Better for going to Switzerland.

Jackpot ! I've found someone for so long way (I was lucky). But hopefully because I spend so much time in Switzerland.
