The perfect place to hitchhike to Chiang Mai because the road goes straight there. There is a gas station and a 7/11 so cars go slow and there are plenty of places to stop. I started at 7:30am and within 5-6 minutes I was picked up by a car

Spot was pretty bad, traffic moved too quickly. Only got a lift because a trucker who was parked up next to me happened to be going to Bangkok.

Just after the petrol station there is room for cars to kinda pull over, no shade, the far lane is normally moving fast but because people exit the petrol station the close lane is slow enough to flag down.

Legit less than a minute and a Ute pulled over and I jumped in the back. Not the most shade but probably the best spot going south from Hat Yai. (Also the two lads that were there on the same day I was, shoot me a message, the last guy I was with got a photo of you Insta@kjmurrag1230)

Pretty good spot, hid in the shade of a signpost. Lots of space for cars to stop. Trucks too. Had 6 people stop, ask if I was ok, and offer to take me to the bus station. Difference between Thailand and Cambodia was very obvious.

In the morning there’s shade from a big billboard. Close lanes are moving slow. I stood just down from the petrol station, there is room for cars and maybe a medium truck to pull over. Bonus points for this spot it has a good spot out the back of the Amazon cafe you can sleep if you have a mat

Kinda had some shade from a telegraph pole. I stood just down from the exit of the petrol station with a Chumphon sign. Super friendly staff there gave me water. The cars in the car lanes are booking it but the closer lanes are slow and easy to flag down

Took a bus from Chiang Rai to the white temple.
From here its very easy to get south.

Right after the intersection, great spot for going north. Cars go slower after the lights and there is heaps of space for pulling up. I stayed a bit after the abandoned police station. Got a ride to Chiang Mai with a sign in Thai in 20 minutes.There is another spot on the hitchmap next to 7/11 but if you hitch during the day this spot after the intersection is much better.

Good spot for hitching to Tak. Got a ride in 15min, standing with a sign written in Thai and English using the waving down a taxi gesture. I don’t know if there’s point in putting the spits out there since Thai people can pull up for you anywhere.

Great spot to get to Tak, waited 15 minutes and got a ride there. I don’t know if there’s point to put the spots out because the Thai people can pull up for you anywhere. (I used a sign in Thai and English below, using the gesture of waving down a taxi)

Got dropped here when hitching from Ayuthaya. I didn’t even yet get to the road to Sukhothai (12) to hitch from there where a car stopped and took me to Sukhothai.

I got a quick ride to Phitsanulok. I hitched from the ramp onto the motorway with a sign in Thai and English below Phitsanulok. I used the vertical wave gesture. Good spot for getting north

PTT gas station - This is one of the best spot in Bangkok to hitchhike south. I was going south, then I wrote a sign to Samut Songkhram (สมุทรสงคราม) first, but the car only took me to Samut Sakhon (สมุทรสาคร), 10 km away.

You can get a cardboard from automobile shop at the end of gas station

** PTT station is the best gas station to hitch a ride in Thailand.

great spot for heading south or north, lots of room for cars to pull over. This is one of the main north/south transport links in thailand. i found a ride for all the way to bangkok! i waited maybe between 1-2 hours

many many cars heading north. small layby for stopping (its thailand, so no need for gas station to wave cars down, they stop anywhere!) found a lift to nakhon sawan quite quick. remember to use both western and asian methods of stopping cars (western thumb and asian vertical hand wave)
