Ride to leiden

Just the last leg to Harmelen.

A ride to Rotterdam would have talen me just 5 minutes, Utrecht was a bit harder, but also fine.

Hitchhiked here multiple times to Alkmaar, always found a ride quickly.

Fucking excellent spot

To hitch north or to Heerlen stand on the nearby hard shoulder reached from Stadionplein. Or perhaps at the nearby traffic light, as I used to do. Do not walk to the A2 petrol station from railway station Meerssen. The door in the noise wall around the petrol station is locked for going inside over ten years.

Stood at the rear end of the rest station for 20 minutes and decided to ask at the EV chargers - immediate success! Maybe it is a good thing EVs take while to charge:)

Bustop for cars to pull over, good visibility. Decent spot to get on the highway south!

Onramp to highway. Drivers go towards Tilburg or Eindhoven. Got picked up by an incredibly nice taxi driver (for free)

We stood on the onramp right in front of the no walking sign. Lots of space to stop and people slow down at the Traffic light an can see you easily.

Road is open again after a quick repair

Tried with Amsterdam sign, no success maybe bc holidays... But there is an official liftplats sign:)))

Easy to stop, decent amount of cars!

Good spot, easy to stop, lots of people offering short rides, went on to rest station near Zwolle.

On a holiday completely deserted, thought we were stranded, but then one of 3 cars in 15 minutes took us to Groningen. Probably more traffic on weekdays. Train station right around the corner if stranded.

Roundabout is gone. Just crossing with traffic lights. Bus stop is in the middle with separate bus lane, so no possibility for cars to stop. Difficult to hitch to Enschede from this spot.

Normally good spot. Temporary closed in direction west (road damage). March/april 2026

Got a direct ride to Haag in 15-20 min of waiting. I'm a girl, was staying with a sign HAAG and thumb. Car speed is okayish (around 30-40km/h), they're turning from 2 directions, so you can stay in the middle of the crosswalk and catch both flows

On ramp with hard shoulder. Cars can stop safe here. Use it for direction west. Only traffic coming from direction Zutphen can enter this road. Not traffic coming from Deventer.

I only asked Dutch license plates. Direct ride to the Netherlands.

Wanted to go to Paris, not the best spot for that. Many people go to the Netherlands or Brussels.

Good spot for Belgium or the Netherlands. Takes a second to find a ride but it makes sense to wait for a longer distance ride that takes you well in the direction you want to take.

Direction North: Apart from Brussels many cars go to Antwerp or the Netherlands. Not so much for Gent

Half of the cars here are Dutch, so there are many people going to Enschede/Hengelo. If you just ask around you can definitely get a ride to the Netherlands very fast Second person I asked gave me a ride to Enschede.

There is traffic going to Genk, the Netherlands or Germany. Also some UK plates.

May favourite starting spot to get out of the area to the Netherlands/Belgium/France. So far has worked out for me fairly quickly every single time. This review is super late, but I was there in May in the afternoon and found folks going my direction in half an hour by asking around. It only took half an hour because they wanted to finish their meal (which, totally fair.) I think the finding itself only took about 10 minutes.

Got a ride with a truck all the way to the Netherlands, while trying to hitch with a sign, close to the entry to the highway. Male/summer

Last petrol station on the highway before entering the Netherlands. Don't get stuck here at night as there is nobody! I went to sleep in the Hasbruch Tower which is in a nature reserve about a 30 minutes hike northwest. Next morning it took me two hours to head towards Leer

Lots of cars going back to the Netherlands. Most had kids on the backseat, but after 25 mins we found someone to take us to the Dutch border.

Lots of space to pull over, but traffic seemed local. I was trying to get onto the E34 to the Netherlands via Antwerp(ambitious, I know) and was offered a ride that took me further down the N9. You might be better off taking the E40 to Ghent/Antwerp if you wanna go to the Netherlands, but I didn't try that other option. Disregarding that though, it's decent.

I went on the ferry thanks to a car coming from Maribo. Then on the ferry I was looking for people going directly to Hamburg. After 10 people, I found 2 dutch brothers coming from Norway and going to the Netherlands. They dropped me at Moorfleet Ikea Hamburg. I was alone and with a small bag.

got stuck there mid trip as the night fell, the station employee was really nice, let us sleep in our bags inside and gave us tea, we found a ride eventually in the middle of the night, the rode through belgium without stopping and left us just after the Netherlands border

Very busy gas station. Asked around and then an Indian family took me straight to the Netherlands. They were driving to Almere, but they dropped me off in Wageningen in front of my dorm.

If coming from direction Buir, take the train to Duren :) Here it is good to go west in direction of the Netherlands

Great spot, many many cars there, going in both direction (Belgium or the Netherlands). Asked the cars and people were very open to me (even tho it was 11 pm)

Its a really good spot to get to the Netherlands because this road leads to the cities in that direction. I needed to reach Maastricht and it was the first driver who took me directly there. Its faster to get a ride standing with a sign.

Used this hitchhiking frequently lately. Going to Wallonia/France/South is very hard if you are not willing to go via Liege. Going to Bruxelles would be a question of a few minutes and going direction Aarschot/Antwerpen/The Netherlands will take around half an hour I guess
