Aire de la Riviera Française
I'm backdating this story because I initially missed it when doing my trip write-up.This is the only service station servicing Monaco, for that, it seems quite promising! It's a bit of a quest to get to though, first, a bus will take you most of the way out of Beausoleil; after which you need to walk up a motorway service road and hop a fence. Not too good, not too bad. It'll do.
The sun was getting ready to set when we started hitching, our sign read “Italia” but the evening traffic wasn't looking promising. We weren't too bothered, however, because the views were fantastic, and it looked like a wonderful place to camp!
Right as we turned round to walk into the woods for the night, we heard a horn honking behind us! Five older Brits on a jolly outing to Italy! They gave us a very entertaining lift to Alassio, where we proceeded to find a place to spend the night.
If hitching from here, I'd strongly recommend not accepting anything that isn't to at least Sanremo. The Italian police don't like hitchhikers at the best of times, let alone those that get stuck on a border toll booth with no pedestrian access.

Small station, not a lot of cars stop here.
I was lucky to get pretty fast ride to Savona from here.

After spending the night with our tent in the gas station, the nest morning we(boy and girl) hitchhiked to Verona but we found a ride in 30min to Torino.

there is little traffic, since it's a small one and when i was there it was just families that can't take you.
