Many cars are going to Paris. Unfortunately we were trying to head south so eventually accepted a lift to Lens from someone heading to Paris.

Definitely helps if you know some French. But we found a ride after waiting for 3 minutes straight to Paris.

I was a single man with my bike, i spoke french s I was asking for rides but the station isn't super packed (sunday at 7pm, the highway was busy tho). I got lucky because I declined a ride to Arras and the driver came back to me 5min later saying he can drop me there and I remembered there is a huge toll on the highway there. If a guy drops you at exit 16 you can walk 10min to the big toll and it's a nice spot. Get yourself a huge piece of cardboard so that cars can read the sign as the toll is big

Quite small gas station, on a late Saturday afternoon it had less traffic than a minor country road. After 1 hour of hitching another hitchhiker, a guy, showed up. We decided to take turns of 30 minutes to have equal chances. He got a ride just as his time was about to finish. We waited for some time more and only managed to get a short ride to a small gas station slightly off the highway (that in the explanation of the driver it looked like a more decent place to hitch).

I often hitchiked to Paris/Rouen from this point. For the adventurous there is a train going to Phalempin (10min?) then you can walk to the petrol station (small road), it is a bit long but worth it (avoiding waiting a lifts from Lille)

I often hitchhike from there to Paris, pretty easy. Also good for going west (Rouen, etc.)

I got a lift to Paris in less than 30 min but I was quite lucky because the man who picked me up was an hitchhiker when he was young and he travelled all over the world :)

Waited here for two hours without anyone even stopping. This place might be better if you speak french and feel comfortable confronting drivers directly. When we finally got picked up, though, it was a direct ride to Paris, so, I guess it was worth the wait.

Last (or first!) station on the A1. Only 15 km from Lille.
