Like another person wrote the online maps way to arrive is not okay. You have to walk from the grass part of the highway for 15 minutes. But it deserve totally the time. Of ypu are going to the south of france you will find your car. Long distance. Easyyyyy

Didn't have to wait too long before a ride to Avignon. Perfect spot. I stood at the exit ramp with a sign.

Perfect Spot to all directions of the South but it’s NOT that easy to go there. When you take the bus be carefull and do not use the way to Walk that google maps tells you. The Service station is surrounded by barbed wire fence. So the only was to reach the spot is by walking directly next to the highway in the grass.

After 10 min of waiting a truck driver came to us and offer us a ride to Marseille. We were going to Avignon, so we agreed and went on a petrol station near Avignon with him. Really good place, cars here usually go for a long distance.

I arrived at night around 9 o'clock on the end of July. It was too late to hitchhike towards Marseille. people here mostly go to St Etienne. So i slept on the chairs of the cafeteria. people working at the station were very nice with me and i could use their fridge to storage some of my food for the night. There is clean toilet and the possibility to shower.
Next morning a started hitchhiking at 8. it took me less than half an hour o get a ride to Montelimar...

First driver we asked on a wednesday morning took us to a service station before Orange. Hitchhiking to this station from Lyon worked well, no need to take a train (maybe expect by night)

Going to this place from the spot of "La mulatière" (south exit of Lyon) by hitchhiking, found a man to Sète directly by asking in the gas station.

Walked here from Vernaison as described in the wiki for Lyon. Takes a bit more than 30 minutes. You can walk along the motorway hidden from the cars by trees along a fence whose side is cleared from bushes, but the terrain is strongly sloping down sideways so it's still not a very pleasant walk.
There was little traffic here a late May workday early afternoon, but we (2 ppl) got a ride south to Valence quickly.

It is good gas station to go south or towards St Etienne. You can get here from Lyon by hitchhiking.
