I waited here for 1 hour trying to find a ride to the UK. I eventually decided to take a ride one gas station further. A BIG MISTAKE!Though there are not many cars going to UK here, at least there are some. At the next gas station there was one car in the first hour, that is it.
So, even if it seems bad, don't get tempted to go one gas station further. You'll regret it.

I've caught a ride from here to the UK in late December 2023 and again in early March 2024. It works! Although it can take a bit of time to find somebody who is up for braving the ferry and border situation with you... As of March 2024 THERE IS NO DRINKING WATER (unless you want to buy it at petrol station prices) and the staff are really unfriendly.

We put a Hitchwiki sticker in this place! (on a traffic sign by the exit) We got offered a ride going straight to Newport, Wales, our destination! Camped there. (September 2014)

It's the last decent place to catch something to England.

Got a car to Dunkerque in about one hour, but it was Sunday, so there was a lot of cars full of people.

I arrived here a bit at a bad time I think, took me 45min to get a ride towards the UK.
Was here on a Tuesday 3PM or so, no holidays or anything. Spotted about 5 cars with UK-numberplate in my 45min waiting time.

lots of traffic. as mentioned above, make sure you are clean shaven and generally look like someone people might consider taking across international borders.

took me 15 minutes to get a ride. definitely wait until you can get a ride all the way to the port, there is enough traffic for that.

Pretty crowdy place, so it shouldn't be bad for hitchhiking, but if you want to go to Calais, it's kinda harder. We waited more than 30 mins, but people stopped us and told us, that they are heading different direction (all the time). After half an hour we got a lift.

Not so difficult as stated above in the description, I did it 3 times now and it takes a bit more time than for a regular ride, but not very long.

Better catch a ride to England here instead of waiting for a ride in Calais! Good place.

I waited 40 minutes (Sa 0:30am). Most cars going to Oostende, few to Calais. Better make sure you get a car directly to the ports otherwise you'll have to walk a lot.

Very good place to get a hike to the UK, can get rides from people who go by Ferry (Oostende, Duinkerke, Calais) or by Tunnel (Calais) but as Frateric said, you have to convince people you are not an illegal immigrant or in possession of drugs. So have your passport ready, be shaved, speak good English/French/Dutch and put on your best clothes

Best point to get a lift to the UK. For the Channel tunnel, cars are paid by car, not by passenger. So, if there is a free seat, it is basically possible to ask for a lift through the tunnel. However, it can take up to 1.5-2 hours, because it is hard to convince people that you are neither an illegal immigrant nor in possession of drugs etc. So, have your passport ready to show to everyone and be patient...
