Het Lonnekermeer

Getting here from Vliegveldstraat (N737): leave the viaduct on the SE side, down to the highway, and under the bridge. The grass is quite wide so it should be safe.

Took us a lot to get picked up, but when speaking to people was easier to get a ride to Osnabruck. We are heading towards Berlin.

A little tricky to get there by foot, but once you get there its a very good spot to go to Hannover/Berlin or Hamburg.

First truck passing by took me to Hannover (could have taken me all the way to Magdeburg). Barely even had time to get my sign!

We were (two guys) SUPER lucky to find a ride straight to Hamburg with two pretty german girls ;) But we were waiting for 1 hour, because it was not so much traffic and it was raining. But the place by itself is really good!

You'll get a ride within minutes - IF you can reach it. I'll usually cycle there. Hide my bike. Jump across the canal and walk to the station. You'll be guaranteed to find a ride to(wards) Berlin. 3 out of 3 times it worked...

Best spot to get over the fence

i got after ask five times. so really fast.

You can climb down the brigde if you're not afraid to climb down 2 metres on a fence. Then walk 20 metres to the station. Got a ride within minutes.

It's a really good place to find a ride to germany. We found a ride all the way to Berlin.

Be aware that the service station closes at night. Not good for night hitchhiking.

Platschi, December 2012
We were two and there were 5 other HHers at the station and we had cake (a lot of cakes), even when we were half unconscious we manage to get a ride in one and a half hour.

Astala27, July 2012
Hitched twice recently from here (March and April 2012) and both times got a ride to Wroclaw resp. Katowice within 20-40 minutes. For the rest, can only approve the words of my previous speakers

I can only confirm all the above, I found a ride all the way to Magdeburg in 25-30 minutes, but they could have taken me to Berlin or even Warsaw.

If you are trying to get there from Hengelo, you either have to cross a little ditch of water, or walk next to the railway as you go around the little hill. I suggest the second one.

Not that crowded so the wait can be long, but perfect to find rides deep into Germany or even Poland. Prepare to walk around quite a bit, as cars have plenty of opportunities to park everywhere.
Don't be satisfied with a ride too early, because the next big gas station is around 120km down the road at Melle.

Koendev, December 2011
Waited there for four hours, but eventually got a ride all the way to Berlin. My advice would be not to start too early, especially during the holidays, because it´s mostly parents with children.

Alternatively, you can cross the motorway via the "Pallastweg", then follow the "Nieuwe Grensweg" to the railway crossing and then get to the service area via the path across the hill. Do not walk past the railway, it's not just illegal, it's also very dangerous!

Perfect for hikes to Germany. I used it multiple times and often had a ride directly to (or further than) Berlin

Climb down the ramp of the Vliegveldstraat (which is the same road as the busy road 'Deurningerstraat' in Enschede where you can easily find a hike to this ramp). Climbing down the ramp is very easy but most convenient if you are not alone so your partner is able to give you the luggage over the fence.
