Raststation Simmering

Good spot to go to Hungary or Slovakia (Bratislava), but lot of people go just to the airport. Ask people at the gas station.

When going to Bratislava or Budapest, and you don't have much luck, you can ask for the petrol/reststation Göttlesbrunn. So when driver is driving the other direction (forexampe: he=bratislava you=budapest), he will pass that station.

There's a place for drivers to pull up ahead right before the motorway, just signal for them to stop in the small parking spot before the two roads converge. Found this place to be the best option for hitching a ride towards Budapest. Got dropped off at a gas station near Neusiedl am See though it was a bit tough to hitch out of there.

That is a poor spot to catch a car to Hungary on Sunday morning. What's more please be carefull if see the police and don't go across the highway, even if there is no car!! Unless you like to pay 100EUR!

Czlowieczki, October 2015
Most of cars are locals, but we got a lift towards east within an hour.

I htichiked from here on a way from Mikulov,CZ to Budapest with my sister.
Saturday noon, 13 o clock.
We waited here 25 minutes, than a women with son took us to Bruck am Leitha.
Lots of traffic, much of it is going to the city. But you can go on a toilet, or have a tea. Very good place.

As the description says, it is much quicker to ask for "the next gas station", Gottlesbrunn of course. There you can pick cars you need, either with H, Ro to Hungary and further or SK to bratislava.

Feorc, September 2014
OMV gas station. Too much local traffic, though.

Few cars but after 1 hour and 30 i found a ride directly to Bratislava!

Vulla, August 2014
Took me about 20 minutes to find a car who took me to the next petrol station, the big one outside Vienna, my sign said Bratislava. I think this spot is good but most Austrian cars might be locals. Free WiFi from McDonald's and if you stand on this spot behind the gas station cars from both sides can see you.

I arrived there with my Bratislava sign and get into the second car passing by. Not even a minute of waiting.
I think you should check the schedule of the bus before. It doesn´t go by very often.

HI! With a Budapest sign in my hands, I'm was standing at the corner of the petrol station. A car stopped, and they offered me a ride to Hegyeshalom, to the border city in Hungary. They took me to a reststation. From there it took me like 15 minutes to find a ride to Budapest. The guy was so nice, he took me exactly where i wanted to go. So i got to Budapest in 3 ours with two rides...thats pretty good for my first hitchhiker experience:)

Very good place to catch cars to Bratislava and Budapest, but the thing is to persuade people (almost intrusive, but polite). Watch out for licence plates of cars and you will find what you want :)

Prosektor, July 2013
We wanted to go to Bratislava. When we came to gas station we saw car with sign BA so we ask the driver and he took us to BA.

Ada.pernik, July 2013
Good spot, found a ride to Bratislava in about 30 minutes.

Teark, May 2013
stand 1 hour at the petrol station for a lift to the hungarian border, get robbed (camerabag), so beware of you stuff!!

TeeTramp, January 2013
Worked for us good, because, you will see directly, which car is going through the motorway, and which is going to the town. But here you will need a sign. Of course you could ask at the gasstation, too.

SuperFreaky, September 2012
many cars only belonged to the local traffic, but it is quite possible to get a lift to Slovacia or even Hungary since the cars are forced to go slow if you stand in front of the label at the exit. Found a car of slovacian men after 1 hour switching the standing with the signboard and the asking the people.

Tommy90, August 2012
You can catch cars from both sides, but people dont have much time to check your "appearance" so be kind and always have a table. Direction: Gyr, Budapest and also Bratislava.

―Anonymous, August 2012
I was HH here to Bratislava with a friend. 4-5 cars per minute. Good place because cars have to go slow. We got a ride in 20min.

―Anonymous, July 2012
This spot is okay. We(a cute girl and a hairy guy) had no sign, but got the first offer after ten minutes, unfortunately they only went to the other side of the Hungarian boarder. Our plan was to go to Bratislava, but when we 20 minutes later got a ride to budapest we changed plans. All in all, this spot is great.

it is easy to find a car to Budapest. just stay the station door and ask peaople. it took just five minutes for budapest on 23th of December 2011

Kralx15, December 2011
In 5 minutes I found a driver who was going to Neusiedl and I asked him to take me to the next Raststation, but he was so nice that he took me to the gas station at Nickelsdorf. There I found a ride to Timisoara, Romania in another 5 minutes.

―Anonymous, August 2011
Lots of cars going East, but need to be aggressive in asking while they are stationary. Cars going East will be turning on the curve at high speed with little space to stop.

―Anonymous, May 2011
there is a MC DONALDS restaurant next to the gasstation seen on the image. if you wait in front of it (or even inside) there is many drivers comming in and out. i wanted to go in winter 2010 (january) to gyoer (hungary) and it took me 20 minutes to find someone. the car was going to romania (via budapest and cluj-napoca) and the driver was offering me a ride much further than to the 110 kilometer distant place i wanted to go, gyoer. on my personal rating 1 to 10 (1 no chances, 10 best ever) this place gets a 6. it is not so easy to reach but if you find someone you can travel some 500 to 800 km only asking one right person. build a cardboardsign with your destination written on it, there is many locals eating or filling their car - they can only take you some 5 or 10 kilometers, the sign will save you many questions...

Direction: South and East... Bratislava and Budapest.
Take the U3 to Enkplatz and then take the 76A bus to Haidequrstrasse... walk to the petrol station... ask there.
