Raststation Walserberg Süd
Waited only like 10 Minutes with a sign to Villach and found someone, who took me to Ljubljana. I think asking around here works good as well, because there are a lot of cars. Easy to reach from Salzburg by foot and Bus.rating: 5/5, wait: 10 min

Horrible if you try to get to Linz or Vienna, amazing if you try to get south. Had to change spot because everybody went south.

Have been here 3 times during summer holiday. Quite a good spot direction Slovenia, direction Vienna was a bit difficult. Got a ride after 1.5 hours to Linz. You can stand there with a sign which is very good place because cars are slow and see you well. But its better to go around and ask the people.

Many cars passing by with Slovenian or other southern licence plates. Wanted to go to Croatia and had a sign which said Ljubljana, got many reactions, but nobody was willing to take us. Later we chanced our sign to Slovenia. Waited really long in the sun, there is no place in the shade. Finally, a Croatian guy took us directly to Zagreb, a perfect place to hhike to the south.

Terrible spot, don‘t hitchhike here if you wanna get a ride north. Mostly just business travelers with no soft spot for hitchhikers or families with full cars stopping for Mc Do.
Don‘t go here! It‘s a hostile place.

Hitchhiked to Slovenia. It was about 5pm and little traffic was going through. At this spot the cars from both gas-stations have to go through. We made a sign with "slovenia" and got a lift after about 20min to Bovec in the Triglav National Park.

Not a very good spot to go south, most people here were going towards Vienna and Graz or into Salzburg.

Not good place for going to Vienna, as most traffic goes to the south. moreover, during summer ~80% of cars are full of stuff and people, so you have to wait for someone who's not going on vacation.
took us (two females) 3h to get a lift towards St. Polten. (august '15)

1,2 and 3 guys, weekdays, direction Wien, Linz
This seems to be very good place, but only if you are heading south, not many cars are going north. We had to spend night there and then hitchike for next three hours to get a ride at least in A1 directin. We were three, then two, but I only managed to get ride when I was alone, cars were usually completely full and all trucks were heading south.

tried to catch a lift to Vienna, that I got after 45min but generally most of the cars go south. it is probably a quite good spot: many cars, parking place, gas station and mc donalds restaurant :-)

very good place for going south. lots of cars from slovenia. got a lift to ljubljana in 15 minutes. also you can eat sth in mcdonalds ;)

We waited 10 minutes but we got many reactions of drivers who just didn't drive far enough for us.

Not very legal but everyone leaving has to pass you, so there's tons of traffic. There's a small spot where the car can stop to let you in before returning to the A1.

Got a ride on a truck headed to Vienna. It's easy and offers many options (most drivers going West/North will stop here since fuel in Austria is about 20-30 cents cheaper than in Germany and even those coming from Germany will wait to get into Austria before refueling for the same reason), you just need to know where to stop.

late july 2011, raining a lot, i waited over 4 hours ; route Münich - Ljubljana ; the guy that picked me after i had gotten desperate took me PAST salzburg, so i decided to travel ON to graz and take quite a detour...

It's a good hitchhiking place depending where you go. Traffic mainly flows to South Europe. Wien and Budapest is very rare... Try Nurnberg -> Passau instead.

A huge petrol station at the border [[Germany]] /Austria. A lot of traffic is going South to Trieste, [[Slovenia]]. Definitely not a good spot to Vienna or Budapest.
