Raststätte Pratteln
Many German cars and ofcourse locals. This time had to wait a bit longer than usual but after that direct lift to Freiburg.―Yarex, June 2016
Very difficult to find a ride to Germany. It's the last station in Switzerland before Germany, so drivers probably wait 30 km until Bad Bellingen, where everything is cheaper. Waited from 5-9:30 PM Mon night and from 6-8 AM Tuesday before finally finding a ride!

Git a ride within 1 min to Bern! Awesome! Ask around at the petrol station!!

Half hour before we got a ride to Karlsuhe. You can cross the highway via the bridge. On the southside there is a gate that was open to get off if needed, so no need to jump a fence :)

Excellent spot, a lot of cars passing by in direction to Zürich. Just stand before exit, we found a ride in 10 minutes.

The place is not bad, of course better than "Weil am Rhein". So if you want to go in northern direction (Germany) better choose this place. We waited about half an hour, then we got a lift to Karlsruhe.

It looks like a great spot, but going towards Lausanne, we (2 people, male/female) waited here for 2 hours from 10am to 12pm. Everybody was going towards Zurich (they said) or did not want to take us.

Might b useful to use a (small) sign when approaching drivers, they appeared to look friendlier and more understanding. I got a pasteboard inside the store.

best spot for hitchhiking in direction south, east or west! only if you're hitching to somewhere in Germany, you maybe better go to the rest area in Weil am Rhein!

On a Saturday 11:00am we (1girl, 1boy) were hitchhiking to Luzern, we had to wait for 1 hour.

I stood there for almost 2 hours while trying to find someone for Geneva. A lot of people went in other directions (Zürich or Italy). However, I found someone who took me all the way.

Excellent spot, I get rides very fast, everytime I stop here. North and south both work in no time. Even in the dead of the night it's possible to get away from here (although you need more patience then)

Amazing spot to hitch south from. My friend and I were trying to get to Italy and we were lucky enough to find someone going to Milano (which I do NOT recommend hitching through). Getting a ride so far south was good but our trip went south (figuratively) in Milano.

take suburban train S1 (indicating 'rheinfelden', 'laufenburg' or 'frick') or S23 (indicating 'olten') from basel main train station to the stop 'PRATTELN', walk 10 minutes to "autobahn raststaette pratteln" which forms a bridge over the swiss national highway 2/3. an excellent place to reach eastward cities such as zurich or bern, on the westward side germany (freiburg, frankfurt) as well as france. there are plenty-plenty of cars passing by 24 hours a day, there is an AUTOGRILL restaurant as well as shops inside the bridge over the highway.
