I've hitched from here twice, both southbound across the M42 to M5. The first time we got stuck for several hours and had to start approaching people as night was drawing in. We made it eventually. The second time I got a quick pickup here BUT misheard the guy and got dropped halfway along M42. Bad move - got really stuck. In my experience M42 south is quite sticky so try to do it in one ride if at all possible. If you're just heading down the M1 though, you'll be fine from here.
